- Q:I picked out this phone on the T-Mobile website, and it won't let me check out. I think it will only let me check out if I choose a monthly rate plan, but I don't need one. Is there any way I can just buy the phone off the website, or do I need to buy a plan for it? I don't need a plan, so do I need to go to a local T-Mobile store, and buy one there? - No you cannot buy just the phone without a new line of service on the T-Mobile website, in other words you will be buying the cell phone/Device at retail price. Also you cant go to a t-mobile retail store and buy just the phone either, they're no allowed to sell you the phone on the spot as because its only for customers activating a new line of service with them. You would have to order it from t-mobile thru the store have it mailed to you, also you can check local cell phone retailers who sell unlocked cell phones, or a walmart store as they carry some of the newest T-mobile phones (G1, Blackberry, Sidekick, Behold Etc) Another option would be OKorder or Craigslist. - No. Sorry , but there are Virgin Mobiles all around the world. They all use different phone technologies. France, UK, South Africa and Australia Virgin Mobiles all use sim card phones called gsm. Gsm networks can use any sim card in any phone if it is unlocked first. India, USA and Canada use a non sim card phone technology called cdma. Each network can only use its own phones. VM Canada is owned by Bell. VM USA is owned by Sprint (as of yesterday's buyout announcement). Neither company will let phones from one side go to the other. So no VM Canada phones can run on VM USA either. If you want true phone choice and freedom , stick with gsm phones which come with sim cards. Anther bonus over cdma is that they can be used in any country in the world, cdma cannot.

- technically the airline mode too is not very effective and if u ask a capt he'd just ask u to keep if off. but yes, since the mobile co. has given us this options u can use ur mobile phone during flight to listen to music u must keep it switched off during take off and landing coz the waves affect the transmission of data and messages from the cockpit to the control tower. fly safe take an iPod with u if possible
