Q: I hava a 12x12 ceramic tile that we want to hang on the wall (not permanently). The tile has no hooks or anything in it. What‘s the best way to hang it?
buy a pack of stick-on wall hooks from your local home store, Use the double sided foam 'tape' that comes with them. Make sure they're the kind with a tab that you can pull to release the tape.
Q: I am thinking of doing a school based apprenticeship in tiling how much money will I get? and how long is the apprenticeship last for my m said around 4 years?
First of all I applaud your thinking of doing an apprenticeship. A tiler once told me that all you need to know about tiling is 'one on top of another, shiny side out' ! If in UK check out your local F.E. College which usually run a full range of courses in the various building trades. If you want an apprenticeship rather than a stand alone course, why not contact a reputable local builder who may take you on and train you on the job together with a college course. Good luck.
Q: Behind my sink in the kitchen, I have a back splash that is white tile with an ugly floral pattern on about every other tile. Instead of replacing all the tile, I was thinking maybe I could somehow take off the floral stuff.I don‘t think it is like a sticker, I tried scrubbing it off with a magic eraser with no luck. Any ideas?
pant it go get a small can of glass paint, tape, and pant
Q: HiIs there an adhesive that can be used to spot repair Vinylfloor tiles 18x18 on a basment floor?
You can buy the vinyl tile adhesive used to put down the tiles originally or use the same adhesive even if the tiles were peel stick. You'll need to scrape up the old adhesive though, or the tile will sit a touch higher than the rest and probably come loose again. You can also use contact cement gel. Again a smooth surface is needed. Give both the tile and the floor a generous coat and let the cement dry to the light touch. Then stick the tile down and put a weight on it. That should take care of it.
Q: i have these ugly light blue ceramic tiles in my kitchen (as a backsplash)..they are fairly big squares ... and the owner before me tried to paint the grout between them because the paint (or whatever it was) is coming off so now the grout is gross dark grey coming through...anyways...i was wondering if anyone had some easy ideas to cover up the ceramic tiles.
I think you need to take them off the wall and then resurface. It isn't as bad a job as you think once you get started.
Q: Does anyone know if I can lay ciramic tile over the dull worn out linoleum floor in my kitchen? I don‘t want to peel up the linolium because of the insane amount of labor it will take, and make the sub floor un even. any suggestions? Will tiles still stick to this material? Thanks!
You don't have to remove the old linoleum. But, you must prepare the surface for tiling. If the floor flexes at all, you could end up with cracked tiles or grout just by walking on the floor. You also need to put something down over the linoleum surface for the tile to stick to. First, you nail down a layer of hardy-backer. This is about a 1/4 to 3/8-inch cement-based wallboard. Next, you have to float about 1/4 inch of mastic on the hardy-backer to make a nice, flat surface (like pouring a cement floor). You then put about a 15-pound slipsheet on top of the wet mastic and let it set. The slipsheet allows minute movements of the subfloor due to thermal expansion without stressing the set tile. Once the mastic sets (usually overnight), you can begin setting the tile.
Q: why is waterproofing done before grouting?why do we need to let the mortar/adhesive dry before grouting?
You should use special green board for the shower. It is water resistant not water proof. This gives the best base for the tiles. You should leave the adhesive set up totally before grouting because the gases that are in the glue need a place to go. This includes thin set mortar because of the water vapor it out gases. Good luck
Q: Tiles of various formulas If a square how much money a square need to have a number of pieces of tiles a brick with a number of squares of various formulas
1, assuming that the two sides of the tile are A (in meters), B (in meters), the price is C (unit is yuan); 2, a square of the required money: (1 ÷ A ÷ B) × C;
Q: I have travertine tile in my bathroom that apparently wasn‘t sealed properly. Now it has water stains that are visible when viewed from an angle. It‘s ugly and I can‘t get rid of them. Any suggestions?
The best thing that you should do is to change your floor tiles. Why don't you try marble this time? It will instantly transform your bathroom into an oasis of relaxation.
Q: I rent but we have cracked a couple of white kitchen counter tiles. Is there a quikfix alternative to replacing them? We realize the solution would be cosmetic.
I can tell you of a little trick that I have done, and no one is the wiser!(No one can tell) I cracked two of mine next to the sink. I had to stop and think about this one awhile. It was in the kitchen and that's where everyone in the world congregates, and is very visible. It was a big crack, with a gap in the middle on one of the tiles, and just a plain crack on the other tile. I came up with using some of my white modelling clay to fill in the gap, and when dried, I covered it with White-Out. (I didn't have any porcelain repair.) The white out holds up to the water, believe it or not! Matter of fact, I've used it to fill in little chips that the sink had in it. And it's still there! Even after scrubbing the sink with comet! I'm both shocked and happy I came up with the idea of using it! Now that's just a quick fix. Under normal circumstances,I would have either looked for new tile,or have gone and bought some porcelain repair at the hardware store. Byee
