Q: I'm sort of a sword maker. You could say I'm an amateur blacksmith. I want to find a dependable source of high-grade steel. I've made a few blades and from what I know about the difference between true steel and cheap steel, I have yet to work with such. All of the metal I have used could not have been true high carbon spring steel because while they are hard, their properties do not reflect that of true steel. I would sincerely appreciate any guidance on where I could order some fine-quality steel so I could produce a truly fine blade.
You have already a good answer, but you have to bear in mind that in your work you need to follow the correct procedure for heat treatment. That procedure is dependent on the type of steel you have picked on.
Q: I know this is an alloy, but can it be mixed to form a superior steel? Therefore less likely to stain?
yes loads
Q: Is steel case ammo going to mess the gun up or is it just going to wear the parts out faster and if so how much faster? (I am not planning on reloading the rounds)
Look at it this way, steel ammo is what about 20 cents per round if you buy it at a gun show by the box of 500. Brass ammo costs like 45 cents per round at my local Academy Sports Outdoors. Now, the life of an AK with military steel case ammo is 25,000 rounds.... lets assume you can get an extra 10,000 by using brass ammo. If you have saved all that money by buying steel cased ammunition, you could buy 3 replacement AK's with the money you saved by the time you wear one out. The AK was made to use steel cased ammunition. All Russian designed weaponry is designed for steel cased stuff, I have heard they actually function better with steel. Something to do with the hardness of the metal.
Q: Describe and explain how the differences in the properties of the thee main types of steel allow them to be used in different ways. I have some chemistry homework due in for tomorrow (yes I know i left it a bit late but I really don't like chemistry) and I would love it if I could actually at least pretend to my teacher that I know what she's on about this lesson because honestly, I really don't know what she spends so long telling us all. Any help would be appreciated and points for the best answer!
Hi, Three Main Types of Steel: 1. Carbon Steel Used in making axes, swords, scissors, cutting tools, vehicle frames. Depends on the % of carbon used how soft the steel will be. 2. Stainless Steel Used in the making of crockery, wrist watches, kitchen utensils, cutlery and surgical equipment. Contains different 11% chromium and some % of nickel. 3. Alloy Steel. Used in making drilling parts, vehicle airplane parts. Stainless steel is also alloy steel but, alloy steel with % of other metals is classified separately.
Q: If I wear a pair of thick wool socks, is walking around in the snow with steel-toed boots going to be a problem? I'm wondering if the steel will make my toes too cold.
should be ok and not cold if you go by what is written in the posting you quoted however if you are thinking of buying them just for the snow i would consider something else much cheaper. however if you already have them then not a problem, i suggest you give it a test run.
Q: I have two theories, which one's correct? My book says that steel is made up of 98% iron and 2% carbon.98% of iron's molar mass (55.85 g/mol) is 54.733.2% of carbon's molar mass (12.01 g/mol) is .2402.If you add them up that gives you that steel has a molar mass of 54.97 g/mol.However, steel's chemical formula is Fe(3)CThat would make it's molar mass 179.56 g/mol.( Because 3(55.85) + 12.01 = 179.56 )Which one is correct?
Molar Mass Steel
Q: What dangers were there for the steel workers in Pittsburgh under Carnegie?
Same as other steel plants, getting crushed by falling steel, getting burned by hot metal etc
Q: LIke a steel building conversion into a residental building??? Thanks.

Q: I have a set of steel pans with copper bottoms. When I cook with oil it always burns the oil to the pan and takes days to clean. I don't think I should use steel wool, since it might scratch the surface. Does anyone know a faster way to clean scorched oil off a steel pan?
Get a can of Barkeeper's Friend. It's a powdered cleanser. It's gentle enough to be used on a ceramic cook top but still strong enough to get metal clean. Cheap and made from rhubarb leaves! Dampen the pan with water, sprinkle generously and smear around with a sponge with one of those non-stick safe nylon scrub pads. Wait about 10-15 minutes to let the product do some of the work for you. Come back and give it a good scrub. Reapply if necessary. I have all stainless steel cookware and use the Barkeeper's to keep them looking nice; especially since they are on display with my pot rack. I also have some copper pieces used for decoration and I use the Barkeeper's to keep them looking nice. It cleans them up faster and better than any of the homemade concoctions or metal cleaners without the residue. And I do use it on my ceramic cook top too! Be sure to wash and rinse the pan after you get it clean; it does leave a haze if you don't.
Q: density of mild steel (MS) is 7850 KG per metre cube , but i want to know the density of stainless steel
