Q:serious question! Dual-phase steel?
Dual Phase steels refers to a distinct group of alloys which are used for automotive bodies. These were developed to give improved deep drawing (for shaping) and strength while on the road. Most of the work was started at the same time in the 1970s as a response to the oil crisis (history repeats!) with SSAB in Europe, US Steel and British Steel leading the way. There are many variants of the dual phase alloys prefered by each of the auto manufacturers. The work on these steels led the way for TRIP (transformation induced plasticity) steels, rephosphorised steels and HSLA (high strength low alloy) steels. There is a distinction between these steels and duplex steels which typically refer to austenitic/ferrtic stainless steels. Also be aware that everyday low carbon steels with 0.1%-0.6% carbon will have a ferritic/pearlitic structure but are not considered to be dual phase So to summarise: Who - major steel companies worldwide When - from about 1973 onwards (up to around 1977 when the developments went in other directions) Where - Europe, USA and Japan (but I'm not sure who it was in Japan doing the work)
Q:mild steel properties?
Be *real cautious* using HCL round stainless. A lowering acid like HCL will wreck down the oxide layer on the stainless, and corrosion will proceed. So far as i do know, there is not any scale down level at which HCL will not attack the skin oxide, however at very low concentrations maybe somewhat rust/pitting/corrosion is not going to be a main issue. Oxidizing acids like nitric, and to a couple measure sulfuric, will passivate stainless under the right conditions. But on simple, mild steels, corrosion will proceed to form FeCl and FeSO4 corrosion merchandise. The corrosion will haven't any outcomes on tensile, hardness or affect until ample fabric has been eliminated via corrosion to make a measurable change. I personally have Converse composite toed boots from my airsofting days and since im too cheap to buy dedicated hike boots, I use it for hiking. Its supposedly made for military use and is much lighter than steel toe. But WAIT!!! lets say you dont have a gun or knife and you run into a pissed off Sasquatch, a steel toe boot too the nutz would do well in puttin the hurt on the dude.

If you want to know everything about steel, there's no way you're going to get an answer on Yahoo that is comprehensive enough. What you want to do is get some books on steel metallurgy, engineering properties of materials, and maybe machine design depending on your application. Topics will include molecular structure, material properties, alloying, stress and strain, work hardening, creep, computing damage and lifetime cycles, corrosion, toughness vs hardness, heat treating, and a ton of others. If you want to sharpen steel, that is a whole topic in itself concerning different blade profiles and their sharpness, edge holding, ease of sharpening, type of grind etc.

Yes you can use steel but you will want to use super alloys like hastaloy and inconel. These withstand the heat in the combustion areas. These are the actual materials used in these stages. If you only want your engine to have a service life of a few hours a conventional hot work steel like H-13 will probably be OK Blades are investment cast in foundries that carefully control the rate of cooling to create a very uniform grain structure
