Q: I laid a new porcelain tile floor in my bathroom. Old linoleum tile floor was in good shape so I just laid right over the top of it. All turned out well except around the toilet. Two of the tile cracked when I screwed the toilet back down to the floor. Obviously I‘ll have to pull the toilet again, remove cracked tiles and start over....but how to I avoid the cracks again?
The fact that those tiles cracked tells you that they were not supported from below. Your linoleum must be not well anchored there. You could try to cut out the linoleum and build up extra thin-set there to achieve the same height as the rest of the floor OR you could anchor the linoleum with extra glue where it was not supported before replacing your tiles. Personally, I prefer the first solution.
Q: For my Science fair project i am testing different types of toothpastes and I was planning on soaking tiles in different liquids to satin them, but I don‘t know which tile would work? Any Ideas?
I suggest glass tiles of different colors (because each color is made with different ingredients) My friend made use of the glass tiles for his project and he won the science fair! Good luck!
Q: Real estate tiles where the tiles as Guangzhou? What are the consequences if the wall is not good?
Guangzhou tiles is the best, because there is no general problem, if the wall is not good to buy a permeable tiles, with a long time will change the pattern, it is difficult to see
Q: I‘m tiling a bathroom counter and have all my supplies but not sure I purchased the right trowel. I purchased a square-notched trowel 1/4x1/4x1/4. What is the difference between this one and the one I see commonly used on tv and on other tiling jobs...the razor tooth edge type?
the grout for these tiles are generally available wherever the tiles are sold. It's mixed with water the same as any grout. You will need a grout trowel to push the grout into the crevices. The trowel is kinda spongy. Work on small areas at a time and do your best to get as much grout pushed in as possible for best results. after it dries (the next day) take a rag and some vinegar to clean up the mess on the tile surfaces. let the scent dissapate and then seal the grout with some grout sealer. 2 coats should be enough. exact directions for the sealer will be on the package.
Q: What is the best brand of domestic tiles?
What is the best brand of domestic tiles? Dongpeng tiles good! Here, we introduce you to the decoration industry within a black technology, Naluotu diamond grinding stone. Now the decoration can be no ceramic tiles, and can be used cement diamond grinding stone and cast stone grinding stone instead of tiles, cement diamond grinding stone and the whole stone grinding stone seamless, on-site pouring, seamless no bacteria breeding, diamond grinding stone But also can release negative oxygen ions, people relaxed and happy. Seamless cement grindstone and sandstone are made of three materials: Nalut special cement mortar, armor concrete seal curing agent and defender concrete seal curing agent.
Q: What type of drill bit should I buy to cut into 4 x 4 ceramic tile on the wall? Can I place the bit into a router? The hole is 10 x 10 and I need it to be 10 1/2 x 10 1/2. There is 5/8 DW w/ metal studs behind it.
One problem I have found with cutting tiles using a rotating cutter - ANY rotating cutter - is that they can leave tiny chips on the edge of the glazed surface of the tile. If you put masking tape where you will cut - before you mark the cut line makes sense - it will stop that. The chipping is on quite a small scale, so you may only notice it if you look for it, and so you might not feel you need to do it at all, but if you do, you've got a way.
Q: What is good for tiles?
Now the market is full of a lot of ceramic tile brand, a national well-known brands, there are some small brands for the local market, of course, in the conditions and budget allowed to recommend or choose some well-known brands, so the quality of the product more To ensure that at the same time after-sales service and construction guidance and so will be more sound, the following can give you some of the market on the front of the brand sales De Gao, Leibang Si, Xi card, porcelain Lai paste, the proposal is for reference only, specific Or you need to decide.
Q: Do you have to rough up the old flooring ?
I tile, every day of my life, and while I'm not at all a fan of vinyl tile, you didn't state PEEL and STICK. Obviously the adhesives on Peel and Stick are inferior and as answer 1 suggests the tile can creep on any substrate. You also don't state any texture on the current tile, certainly to float anything over it is no less a task and challenge as it would be to remove the tile. For one thing a peel and stick needs almost a glass like finish for its inferior adhesive to be even modestly effective. That would relate to roughing up as well. Then there is the issue of how you might define Rough Up? I offer my opinion/ s First of all if it's peel and stick, I'd not bother, but if I bothered, my usual; course of action is a water based contact cement on both the substrate and the bottom side of the tile. That method can be used on non adhesive backed tile as well, but there are many viable/valid tile mastics on the market. A final note, no matter what tile or method you choose. DO NOT use the existing tiles as a guide to install new. If you choose to floor over though I cannot imagine doing so, you will be better served to displace seaming the new tile, (offset) at the seams, from the existing. Steven Wolf Just my two sense
Q: My kitchen floor is ghastly and I want to change the floor. I could replace the tiles but it would be more work, but I could also get some linoleum and only have to measure. Just wondering which of the two is better to keep up.
If the original tiling is intact its quite possible to lat lino straight over the top,so id go the lino, theres an amazing range out there and of course the beauty of it is if later down the track you wish to change it you can! if you do tiles again, yes its a big job ,plus with lino you dont have to worry to much about what floor cleaner you need because theres no grout you have to worry about protecting, good luck.
Q: self stick floor tile, vapor barrier
Luan is not a vapor barrier. The best vapor barrier you can use is already down. Just apply it over the old floor. Make sure you don't have seam-over-seam.
