- Wood.. Tile is so inconvenient. Tile is so hard to clean. Because it has those cracks inbetween each square. Go with wood.

- I would try a magic eraser.
- Q: I have thinset my slate tiles in place, and washed any thin set off as best as I can with water. I can‘t seem to get some of the thinset marks off, how important is this? Also, how long should I let the tiles dry before I can seal them? (I want to seal before grouting). One last thing, my sealer product says to grout 2 hours after sealing? This seems fast...will the sealer be dry enough?
- Ideally you could have sealed your slate before setting (as long as you kept the sealer off the edges of the tiles). This would have made thinset and grout clean-up much easier. You really need to get all the thinset off your tiles. At this point you might need some hot water, a scrungy pad and some elbow grease. If that doesn't do it then you'll need to use a cleaning solution - maybe they have something where you bought the slate (make sure it's safe for natural stone). So after the tiles are thinset free, you can seal - again only the tops of the tile. If sealer gets down the sides your grout will not grab hold as well. Apply enough sealer to coat, but avoid puddling. You can grout after 2 hrs - but you can wait longer if you like. I would seal your grout after it dries as well. Hope this helped... Rich

- If the floor is concrete, remove the existing floor covering. Use thin-set, not mortar and lay the new tile. Begin in the center of the floor to make sure the borders come out even. Remove the toilet. It makes for an easier job. If the floor is wood, use hardi-backer or wonder board as an underlayment. Then set the tile.
- Q: making a counter top from spare tile pieces
- Prep your counter to meet tile standards, Each one can be different so with out knowing what yours is I cant say there. You ll need to figure what you want to do with the edge to trim it out. You can use a tile bull nose or a wood trim. Spread the needed glue, usually a thin set , over a small area. Then you can break tiles , ( very carefully) with a hammer or a pair of tile nippers. I use tile nippers to create the piece effect. These methods are called rubble effect. You ll need a honing stone to hone the tile edges so they are not sharp. Set into the wet glue, don t let it skim over or become dry. Grout as needed depending on what type of tile you use. - Q: i want to paint my bathroom and the walls and floor are ceramic tile what do i do?
- I would not try painting the floor, virtually nothing available will stay in place. You can use the 2 part epoxy paint for the walls, that is designed for re-coating a tub. It is about $50 for the kit, and one kit may not do the entire bathroom. Kilz, a brand name, does make a primer for going over tile. You should rough up the surface a bit with the sand paper, so the primer will stick, then put on a good finish coat. I did this in my bathroom with pink tile. It lasted about 2 years, I then had to touch up some nicks, but it was easier and much cheaper than all new tile.

- Ceramic tile or vinyl tile? Ceramic tile you need a total substrate of no lees than 1 1/4. This means you need to add a minimum or 1/2 to make it sturdy enough for tile . And the very best ting to use ( for the average DIY) is 1/2 cement board. And this needs to be properly installed. This will comply to ATC and TCA tile codes.. If your using a vinyl tile you possible can go over it all w/o underlayment but I strongly suggest a 1/4 wood underlayment such as luan. This gives you a clean surface to bond to. - Q: I just finished my bathroom but when i used the oil based kilz there was a little spray back that landed on the tile floor.
- Depending on the type of tile you might be able to use a sharp knife (exacto or paring knife) and gently remove the spots. If you have any kind of ceramic tile that would work (in my experience) except perhaps on the grouted areas. If you have grout and the Kilz is in/on the grout you might have to actually scrape some of the grout off and then reseal the grout. Good luck. It's laborious work but it should work. If you have linoleum tile I wouldn't do that because it might remove the finish. The next time you go to the paint dept. at the store ask them how to do it if you haven't solved the problem

- Depends on where that tile falls off or is otherwise compromised. The black tiles take the most heat and would certainly be the ones to be concerned about. The white tiles less are used where the heat produced by the reentry process is less, so a missing tile there, would pose less of a problem.
