Q:How to make handmade tiles?
In some measure it depends on how strong you want the tiles to be. Fired clay, in even a tile sense, is usually done at 3600 degrees in a kiln. Then cooled, painted/glazed/ etc. and fired again. At a decent pottery retailer you can find dozens of types of clay, and in fact some that is low fire, or even oven bake, which can be hand painted, and perhaps glazed over with a clear coat and no re-firing, but the strength and durability issue will still exist. Clay for tile, Ceramic or Porcelain, is slab rolled for consistency, Cut precisely, fired in kilns, cooled, then is decorated variously. Some larger houses will sell blanks that one can decorate themselves, even coffee mugs/cups/ bathroom sinks. etc. Obviously with a rolling pin and some risers, at 3/8 or 1/4, you could hand roll the clay and cut it, but then what? Below is a link for a general search to a company that can give you all the info you need in various methods and types of clay used. I spent a lot of $$$ with them in the early part of this decade. Steven Wolf Just my two sense
Q:What is half tiles
Water absorption is less than 0.5% is called the whole tile is greater than the pottery is half porcelain. There is a very simple way to distinguish between the water is poured on the back of the brick very little water can be quickly sucked into the semi-porcelain is, and vice versa is all porcelain, and from the name and use can also The whole tiles are called antique tiles, polished tiles, tiles, matte bricks, etc., there are generally called with a certain stone, a certain jade, such as cloud shadow stone, amber jade, etc. are all tiles, The use of points on the majority of home clay floor of the earth tiles are all porcelain, and home bathroom, kitchen sticky porcelain walls are all semi-porcelain, so now the mainstream is the use of matte tiles, antique brick
Q:Anyone ever tiled a counter top?
This is a litttle tricky to answer because I can't see what you have to work with. However, here is how I do it. Remove all of the old counter top down to where you can see down into the cabinets below. Then I use 3/4 inch thick plywood. It doesn't have to be the sanded kind because over the top of that I put a layer or the thin 1/4 inch tile backer board, sometimes called Miracle Board or Cement board. Be sure to counter sink the screw heads just below the serfice or you will have problems seating your tile. I always try to size my top at this point so I don't have to cut many tiles. Every situation is different so you have to do some figuring at this point. I always lay my tiles out dry to see how they fit first. Then you must think about the edge trim that will go around the outside edge of the counter top. I use oak but that also depends on what style you are doing but none the less something must incaplsulate the tiled area. Use the little tile spacers at the corners of the tiles to get an even fit. They are shaped like an + and are cheap. Most home centers have guides for free that have good info, take advantage of that. I wish I could send a picture of my island top. Just looking at a picture helps alot. Also, use the pre-mixed latex adhesive to put them down, much better and don't forget to seal the grout when it is dry. Good luck!
Q:My tile constantly cracks?
.If your home was recently built, it may still be settling. Homes, especially those built on fill often take several years to settle. The fact it happened in both the basement and the third floor makes me suspect this is the case. Keep in mind that concrete will expand and contract with temperature changes. If you live in the northeast the rapid temperature changes we've been experiencing could also have something to do with it. As far as happening ever again, the best policy is to wait and see. Wish I had an easy fix for you. Good Luck.
Q:Are you decorating the house with tiles or wood? why? How do you choose!
Wood flooring shortcomings: Generally speaking, the wood floor by the weather and humidity greater impact; need regular maintenance; easy to change after the Alice Alice; formaldehyde release; life is relatively short, not easy to care, have to often play Wax for maintenance. Analysis of Advantages and Disadvantages of Tiles of the advantages: in general, the tiles a favorite reason are mainly easy to clean, easy maintenance, easy to hide pollution, no air pollutants; long life, generally can use 10-20 years; fire, water, Good; environmentally friendly and rich shape. Casually in which building materials market, there are a variety of sizes, all kinds of colors and various patterns of tiles for sale, with tiles can spell out the vision of family life, and take care of convenient, do not have to worry about being wet or hardened by water Scratches.
Q:Outdoor decking with tile?
In my opinion the installing of tile over a wooden deck will probably not stand the test of time, because no matter how well you water-proof it, moisture will eventually rot out your wooden support, causing the tile to sag, crack, or break. The moisture may not come from the top as it will be absorbed into the wood from below the deck. If you have your heart set on this and you're willing to replace it all one day, I'd waterproof the deck first. There is a marvelous liquid rubber-like liquid called Red guard that can be painted on with a brush- cover it well and don't miss any spots. When dry, screw down some concrete backer board- it comes in 3 by 5 sheets, and you'll probably be better off to use 1/2 inch thick goods, as you need the support and non-flexibility of the thicker goods. If I were doing it, I'd coat this finished installation with Red guard too, and let it dry before you start setting the tile.Make sure to use exterior grade thinset mortar the best quality you can afford, and make sure you get tile suited for exterior applications, because there is a difference. I think the most important thing that should be mentioned is that your deck needs to be very strong to support all this extra weight that will be placed on it-beef it up extra if you intend to do this. Best of luck!!
Q:Small size tiles for external walls
45 * 45mm, 45 * 95mm, 45 * 195mm, 100 * 100mm, 100 * 200mm, 110 * 250mm, 140 * 280mm Tiles, including 100mm * 100mm150mm * 150mm two or so super 200mm should be called tiles 10CM * 10CM, (a lot of specifications) mainly look at what you personally like the specifications.
Q:What is the tile material?
Tile raw materials from the clay, quartz sand and so on mixed.
Q:how to grout jagged edge tiles?
Most all tiles ( there are exceptions) are always grouted flush to avoid a couple of things. One is the problem your having now and the other is to protect the edging of the tile.depending on just how much more you have to fill in, you make have to dig some grout out to get a proper bond..
