- Q: I have a t-mobile cell phone and since I returned home from vacation Sunday, I have noticed that my phone now says ATT as its service, not 'T-mobile.' I haven't done anything to my phone, and have no idea why this is happening! A few of my friends who live next door also have T-mobile and have the same thing happening. What's even more odd is we have far better service now (even though ATT has horrible service in this area- New York's Hudson Valley).Any idea as to why this is may be occurring?
- It just means you're connecting to an ATT tower instead of to a T-Mobile one. Sometimes that happens because there's an issue with the T-Mobile tower and your phone can't connect to it. (Like if they're working on it right then or it's just busted, which seems to happen often.) If it's giving you better service, that's awesome, so don't bother to ask T-Mobile to put you back on their towers (tech support can do that I think). Roaming on other towers is included on T-Mobile so it's not going to affect your bill at all.
- Q: I ordered a new phone with a 2 yr contract online with t- mobile about 5 days ago and i still cant track my order on the UPS website and on the t-mobile website all it says is Your upgrade order is in process. is this normal ?

- Q: How does a mobile come to know that which operator is meant for it. What exactly happens and how a mobile phone attach to the network. How it is different if the mobile is in roaming area?
- A cell phone network is made up of the cell phones themselves, base stations, and the mobile switching center (MSC) hardware which does call routing, etc. The base stations (cell towers) are always broadcasting out control signals that contain a System ID (SID) and how it expects cell phones to identify themselves. When you power up a cell phone, it hears this and registers with the nearest base station and your cell phone sends its Mobile ID Number. This Mobile ID Number is more than just your cell phone number, it also contains its own system ID (SID) number, and it also contains the ESN, Electronic Serial Number that identifies that specific phone. If the base station's SID and cell phone's SID match, then the phone is on its home network. If not, then you are roaming and connect to another provider's network, usually for additional charges. Your phone usually can hear multiple cell towers but connects to the one that has the best signal (signal to noise ratio). After your phone is registered, your cell phone number plus ESN are forwarded to the MSC, which sends this to a home location register or HLR. If it turns out you're not on your home provider's network, it goes to a VLR, Visiting Location Register. This way the cellular network always knows where you are, that is, which cell you're in (what cell tower) so calls can be router to/from your cell phone.
- Q: Hi all,I've been looking on Amazon at the Samsung Galaxy S phone the description is ' Samsung I9000 Galaxy S Sim Free Mobile Phone 'I was thinking of buying this phone but I'm a bit unsure if it would work once I got it.Question 1: What exactly does Sim-Free mean? I thought initially it was that the phone was open to any network not locked but after reading some posts I am still a bit unsure.Question 2: How can I tell if this phone is locked or unlocked, I live in Spain so it would go on to a spanish network. When I came to Spain with my unlocked phone I just changed the sim card to a Spanish one and it worked. So really I'm just wanting to know if I buy it that I can just put my sim-card in and it will work. Thanks

- Q: I recently was told something about how if a new phone comes out, for example the next iPhone, I could bring in my iPhone 6+ and trade it in for the next iPhone if it was in good condition. The payments i've already made monthly would just start over for the new phone. I was wondering if that was true or not. I also heard something about a t mobile jump plan and was wondering if I could get some more information on that if anyone knew. Thank you.
- T-Mobile Jump is something you add to your plan that costs an extra $10 a month. After 6 months you can jump by handing over your old phone and getting a new one. The remaining cost on your old phone is gone, you just have to start paying on the new phone. (jump means you don't need to pay off the old phone)
- Q: a friend from school is going to give me her phone (lg rumour) there is no phone number on it and she hasn't used it since the summer time. for me to activate it, do i just go to a virgin mobile store and say that i want to activate the phone?i also want to get unlimited texting on the phone aswell. (its a prepaid phone) how do i go through with this. plus, anything else that i should know?
- If the phone is inactive right now, you can go into a Virgin Mobile store and ask to activate it. Except since it has no phone number, that might be kinda hard. For unlimited texting, I have a $25 plan that gives 300 minutes, and unlimited texting and web. While you're at the store, they can probably start you on that plan. Or you can go into your messaging settings under Balance Usage and change it from there.
- Q: Are there any possible dangers of owning a mobile?how important is your mobile to you? do you think mobile phone encourages young people to waste time and money?pls answer all my questions clearly?
- Of course there are dangers of having one. you could stop paying attention to the road and kill someone or yourself. My mobile phone is definitely important to me because if there is an emergency I could call someone. Well I think now kids get these phones and text and I think they are just bored. Yes it's a waste of time and money when you see a 7 year old on a cellphone.
- Q: If so please mention themAnd also could you tell me what phone I should get from T-Mobile please and thank you.
- In my opinion, Tmobile is a great cellular service provider and I've been using them for years without problems. So I think you should be fine with them. Meanwhile, all I can say about the t-mobile phone selection is RAZR-Ville! and it's also that way for a good reason. T-mobile doesn't offer very many decent phones in my opinion aside from the reliable RAZR and Sidekicks. But, the problem with this is the fact that RAZRs are becoming all to common and the sidekick has an apalling screen resolution, camera, and portability rating (at least for me). T-mobile also has a tragically small amount of smartphones in their line up. This is because T-mobile is relying on the blackberry/crackberry to hold their smartphones sector. So unless you love blackberries, look somewhere else. Finally, the low-end phones are mainly clamshells with decent functionality for those who just want a phone. Though one exception to the low-end phones would be the samsung slide phone that they have get it if you wan t a nice looking and quite capable basic phone. Thus, unless you absolutely love the RAZR, text message to the point or needing a sidekick, need a blackberry(I found the phone boring), or want a basic phone which you can mostly get elsewhere. I wouldn't recommend getting a phone from t-mobile directly. Which brings me to a simple conclusion, buy an unlocked GSM phone that works with where you live and T-mobile from OKorder or something and stick your sim card in it. Well hope that helps.
- Q: i am wanting a phone from boost mobile but want a straight talk plan?? can I do this
- No, that will not work, and for several reasons: 1.) Straight Talk will not accept a Boost Mobile phone, period. 2.) Boost Mobile phones are not compatible with Straight Talk's GSM SIM cards. 3.) Boost Mobile phones with SIM card slots are either iDEN (which will not work with a GSM SIM card), or are locked from being used outside of Boost Mobile.
