- Q:I have a USB powered external hard drive. The cable that came with it has to plug-ins for the PC. I know the fat one provides power so I use that one. I would like to know what the other skinny one is for.I have seen other people plug both in when using it and it worked fine for them. I am using just the fat one and it works fine for me. - Use your laptop as you would a mobile phone. Have it fully charged, then run it until it's almost flat. Once again, the battery does have a memory, as said by another person. and also if it's continuously left in power it can also cook the battery cells so when you unplug from power you may have 5 mins of battery life if that. - ok....this might not be you power supply cable.. this may be a problem with your powerjack in your laptop, if that's loose, then it won't recieve any power from the cable...it will randomly though..i had the same problem a few months ago, and a little solder job will do the trick! take it to a good local repair guy (or me if you're in the uk hahaha)... and have the power jack resoldered.. try your power supply on another similar laptop to make sure it's not that..but generally speaking..once a power supply's fried..it won't work randomly...all it is, is a transformer and a converter... it would make sense if it was the power jack loose or has a faulty connection to the motherboard :) hope this helped!

- It seems like a bit much, I would go more for $20, considering the fact that it's only a power cable, not even a controller, and that it's not new. Hope this helped
