Q:96 Geo Tracker failed test cause of EGR flow.Had EGR Bypass and EGR control valve replaced.After driving car for a week engine light came on.Tested again and failed again cause of EGR flow.Had o2 sensor replaced. Drove for a few days,engine light came on again. Tested again and failed, again for EGR flow and now system too lean.Dealership can‘t find the problem,but recommended I have fuel injector service,engine decarbonization,and new hoses they didn‘t specify which ones.I‘ve spent over a grand trying to fix and I don‘t want to give the dealer any more money because they haven‘t been able to fix it.Trying to qualify for a waiver from the Illinois emissions but they won‘t give it to me unless the engine light is off,it doesn‘t matter if the car fails. What should I do?Can I perform the engine decarbonization and injector service myself, and if so how?and will that even make a difference?Is there a way to turn off the engine light without disconnectin battery to get qualify 4 waiver?

Yes, an exhaust leak can cause problems like this. So try fixing the exhaust from the head to the muffler. You see one gaping hole, there could be others. Considering that this is one of the few cars that you can find new cast exhaust manifolds for that are aftermarket, it would not be surprising if you need one. The gasket/s I suspect are in the exhaust system and not internal the engine.

Q:I took my car in for repair on the clutch only. When it was time to pick up my car, they say that my SRS aigbag was on. I know 120% for sure that it was not on when I took it to them. Now to find out my honk and everything related to the front driver airbag is not working. (totally whole different thing). I know they must have done something and the owner acted like they didnt do anything and will do nothing about fixing , they are all in this. I am in the process of filing complaint and would like to know could it possible they done something wrong while fixing my car? I also find out that they put their frame on my back license plate w/out even telling me. Touching other things on my cars. now to think back what could they must done. Please Help??

the act of replacing the clutch should not have affected the air bag system.if you horn is also not working it could have something to do with the air bag clock spring that is located under the airbag in your steering wheel.at this point you air bag system is not working.it will not deploy in case of an accident. your best bet is to take it to the dealer and have them run a diagnostic check.it will cost,but the may be able to tell you what caused it.there are time where just disconnecting the battery will require a set set. as far as them putting a license plate frame on your vehicle,they should not have done that without your consent.in a sense you are advertising for them.

Q:ok so recently my car will not hold a charge. i have to jump start it every morning before work. they tested it at auto zone and said the battery tested ok and the alternator was over charging (140 i think amps?) but after completely replacing the alternator its still doing it. its fine if im driving but when i hit my brakes or turn on my turn signal it drains the battery really fast and i have to floor it to charge back up. my bright light completely kill the car as soon as i hit the switch. and my dome lights keep staying oni cant get them offalso when i hit my turn signal all the lights in the car flash with them. today we found a slice in the battery cable. it was pretty bad but we fixed it as best as we could and taped it tightly. any suggestions as to what this could be? i deliver pizzas and need a decent running car. its a 1996 pontiac bonneville seit has the 3800 if that matters. i wasted money on the alternator so i dont want to buy a new bat unless i know thats it

Q:At the suggestion of an Advanced Auto worked, I connected an orange wire (illumination wire) to an orange with white stripe wire. Now, every time I turn on my headlights the instrument panel doesn't light, my console lights do not dim as they usually do, and my backlights do not turn on. Basically, my headlights turn on, but everything else seem to be no different than when my headlights are turned off.The instrument panel and back lights are on the same fuse, but the fuse does not look blown. If it helps, my car is a 2001 Honda Accord LX. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Dash and tail use different fuses!!! You may have blown the resister in the dimmer for the dash lights in the headlamp switch if so connected!

The service engine soon light usually indicates a problem in your emissions control system. The best thing to do is to go by Auto Zone and ask someone to pull the code. They will usually do this for free. Once you have the fault code/s you will have some idea of where to start. Its a possibility for sure. Most auto parts stores will check the charging system the battery and the starter for free. Just as them to check with the machine inside the store. It sounds like you were aware of the older batterybutt if the light is still on it may have some other problem too. Possibly a bad voltage regulator which is in the alternator or it could be a slipping or worn belt too.

Have you done maintenance recently or changed oil or had something checked on it? This can happen if the car computer calibration has been reset by the auto shop and now the car is calibrating it's systems again. If not, you may need to take into service to check if you mixture is correct. The light may also come on if it detects something is off in the fuel to air mixture ratio. Anyhow, if the light went off this means there isn't something major going on and it may just be a small thing that is out of place. Your best bet is to drive it around for another couple days or so and see if it comes on again. If it never comes on again then don't worry about it. If it does, take it in for service to have the car diagnosed. It is true, it may also be due to the gas cap not being properly fastened. Good luck!

Q:I drive an 04 Nissan Frontier, I think if I would have unplugged the battery before changing it, it wouldn‘t have come on. All wires are secure that were unplugged around the radio.

try disconnecting the battery for a minute and then rehook it.

The problem may be in the exhaust system, such as a bad flex coupling in the header pipe, or just be caused by a fuel filter that needs replaced. Now the fuel filter replacement is easier (and cheaper) then an exhaust leak to fix. But if you have noticed an increase in engine noise suspect that you have a leak some place between the engine and the front O2 sensor.
