The Inside BOP is heavy-duty drop check valve with a conical plug to reduce the cutting action of the mud on the valve seat, ensuring positive closure whenever required.

Installed in the drill string, it can protect the rotary swivel, rotary hose, stand pipe, and mud pumps from drill pipekicks.

It may be used along with high pressure pumps to maintain well control by preventing high pressure backflow.

On the inside of each end will be a neoprene washer or rubber washer,when you say still spinning it sounds as if this may be missing. Also use pipe dope as oppsed to teflon, Hope you get this solved, if all else fails take a piece you are connecting to, with you to the hardware store

Is this the right thing to do, to not grab anything on your way out?: rubber cement of course. but, you need to prepare your surfaces. wash with soapy water, rinse and dry completely. now rough up the area to be glued with sandpaper or a little grater(often included with the glue). you should probably stretch your rubber if it will be normally stretched.
