Q:What happens to the aluminum atoms in this reaction?
Aluminum will reduce copper ions (and be oxidized) when chloride ions are present. Otherwise aluminum metal will pretty much just sit there. The reason is the passivating layer of Al2O3 on the surface of any piece of aluminum. This metal oxide layer prevents the metal from actually reacting. But in the presence of chloride ion in water, Al2O3 will react, resulting in AlCl4^- and OH- ions. Al2O3(s) + 8Cl- + 3H2O(l) -- 2AlCl4^- + 6OH- This allows the aluminum metal to come into contact with copper ions resulting in the redox reaction: 2Al(s) + 3Cu2+ -- 2Al^3+ + 3Cu(s) There is a side reaction where aluminum metal reacts with water, and hydrogen gas is produced. 2Al(s) + 2H2O --2 AlOH^2+ + H2(g) When you actually observe the reaction, you will see copper metal being formed, aluminum metal dissolve and bubbles of hydrogen gas being given off. ============ Follow up ============= Because of the passivating effect of Al2O3 and the fact that Al2O3 dissolves in the presence of Cl- forming a new complex ion, AlCl4^-, Brian's answer leaves out a lot of the important chemistry.
Q:aluminum boat vs fiberglass?
Fiberglass boats ARE NOT more durable. A typical fiberglass bass boat will last approx 12-15 years with regular use- depending on brand and if you plan to fish tournaments. (Tournaments can ruin a boat in NO time.) Typically, GOOD aluminum hulls will last a LONG time- if properly cared for.
Q:Can you temper aluminum or tin?
No. In fact, aluminum (and I believe tin) work harden when hammered - as do brass and copper and you heat to anneal and then you can cool fast or slow, still soft. Tin has a very low melting point and hitting it with a torch, especially if thin, will probably put a hole in it. The chances of you actually having tin sheet metal are very low - tin cans are zinc plated steel or some other coating. Steel does harden when quench, but heating tin or zinc coated metal is likely to damage the coating and perhaps give off noxious fumes - especially zinc.
Q:If copper wire is expensive, why not use aluminum?
Oh come on!! The question seems to be asking abotu replacing the service ENTRY cable to bump it up from 100 to 400 AMPS. Got news for you all. THe service entrace cable IS aluminum. It connects to the circuit breaker box at terminals designed FOR aluminum. Go take a look at any recent install and tell me what you see. (It will be AL) AS for the remainign wires throughout the house. Most will be copper. However note that modern outlets can be provided to accept aluminum and copper. Just look fot the AL/CU stamp ont he outlet. Generally the clothes dryer, over and A/C will use al wire but they are attached to outlets specifically designed for AL wire. Eric
Q:What is the density of the aluminum in grams per cubic centimeter?
For the best answers, search on this site (2.7 g / cm³) x (1 kg / 1000 g) x (100 cm / 1 m)³ = 2700 kg / m³
Q:aluminum oxide?

Q:what will happen when aluminum sheet is put into copper chloride solution?
the chemical equation of the reaction, 2Al+3CuCl2=2AlCl3+3Cu, the phenomena when aluminum sheet is put into copper chloride solution: there is red solid generating on the surface of aluminum sheet.
Q:Can aluminum plate protect against radiation?
Two. A brief introduction to radiation:Radiation refers to electromagnetic energy from the source part from the field source and transmitted, then return to the source, energy by electromagnetic waves or particles (such as the Alfa particle, beta particle) in the form of outward diffusion. All objects in nature, as long as the temperature is above zero degrees of absolute temperature, send the heat continuously in the form of electromagnetic waves and particles. This way of transmitting energy is called radiation. The radiation energy radiates straight from the source outward in all directions. The energy emitted by an object through radiation is called radiant energy. The radiation was calculated by roentgen / hour (R). One important feature of radiation is that it is "peer"". A body can radiate radiation to a second object, and at the same time a radiation to a target, regardless of the temperature of the object (gas). The term is commonly used in ionizing radiation. Radiation itself is a neutral term, but radiation from certain substances can be harmful.
Q:Are electrons in aluminum free?
Any element that allows the transfer of electrical flow to move across it usually has the characteristic of having free movement electrons in the outer shell. This is why metals are particularly good at electrical conduction. The best metal for transferring electrical charge is silver followed by copper and then aluminum. Much electrical wire is made from pure aluminum because it is cheaper than copper or silver and the resistance to flow is only slightly lower than copper. The electrons in the outer shells are still bound to the aluminum nucleus but they are free to accept a charge from neighboring aluminum atoms and transfer that charge to the next aluminum in the electrical flow. This is basically the definition of electrical resistance. Copper performs this transfer more efficiently than aluminum so it's electrical resistivity is less than aluminums. But in both base metals, the outer electrons never leave the atom, they simply transfer their charge to the next atom in line
Q:Good slogan for aluminum?
Once worth more than Gold Aluminum: It's the flipping answer If government could read your thoughts, you can always wear aluminum head gear. Aluminum - The super wealthy recycle it. Lucky Element 13 - Aluminum Say no to radiation from machines; Say yes to Aluminum Nothing Says Christmas like Shinny Metallic Reynolds Gift Wrapping Aluminum - it's worth more money than slogans because I get those for free over the Internet
