Aluminium foil acts as a total barrier to light and oxygen (which cause fats to oxidise or become rancid), odours and flavours, moistness, and germs, it is used broadly in food and pharmaceutical packaging. The purpose of aluminium is to make long-life packs (aseptic processing|aseptic packaging) for drinks and dairy goods, which allows storing without refrigeration. Aluminium foil containers and trays are used to bake pies and to pack takeaway meals, ready snacks and long life pet foods.
Aluminium foil is widely sold into the consumer market, often in rolls of 500 mm (20 in) width and several metres in length. It is used for wrapping food in order to preserve it, for example, when storing leftover food in a refrigerator (where it serves the additional purpose of preventing odour exchange), when taking sandwiches on a journey, or when selling some kinds of take-away or fast food. Tex-Mex restaurants in the United States, for example, typically provide take-away burritos wrapped in aluminium foil.
Aluminium foils thicker than 25 μm (1 mil) are impermeable to oxygen and water. Foils thinner than this become slightly permeable due to minute pinholes caused by the production process.
Aluminium foil has a shiny side and a matte side. The shiny side is produced when the aluminium is rolled during the final pass. It is difficult to produce rollers with a gap fine enough to cope with the foil gauge, therefore, for the final pass, two sheets are rolled at the same time, doubling the thickness of the gauge at entry to the rollers. When the sheets are later separated, the inside surface is dull, and the outside surface is shiny. This difference in the finish has led to the perception that favouring a side has an effect when cooking. While many believe that the different properties keep heat out when wrapped with the shiny finish facing out, and keep heat in with the shiny finish facing inwards, the actual difference is imperceptible without instrumentation. The reflectivity of bright aluminium foil is 88% while dull embossed foil is about 80%.

- Q: So for Halloween (which is on Friday) i want to be dressed up as a psychicI have the costume but i want this really cool accessoryA crystal ballI don't want to buy anythingIs it possible to make a crystal ball out of aluminum foil or tape? i don't want to buy anything for this projectBEST ANSWER GETS 10 POINTS!!!!
- My first thought when I read your question was paper macheIf you made a pinata type ball, it would be light, and you could cover it with foil, or spraypaint it For paper mache, make a flour and water mixture that is the consistency of a pretty thick pasteTear newspaper into strips, dip it into the paste, run the paper through two fingers to get rid of the excess paste, and plaster it onto a balloon or a ball if you want a perfect circleLet the first layer dry, and add a second layer, and maybe a third, depending how sturdy you want itThen cover it with foil or spraypaint it or whatever you want.
- Q: I am five inches tall, I would like to buy a woman's road bike, that has a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of useI am looking for around $500 - $800 range1) What is a good brand that you recommend, with a drop down bar (tube) in the front, for easy get on/off2) What is the right frame size that I should buy? (48 inches?)3) When buying a bicycle, what other factors to look for? Thanks
- So one of two thingsFirst-use the 9inch anyway and decrease the cook time because it is a bigger pan and because it is alluminum not glassIve done this plenty of times and its worked fineSecond-you slightly increase the ingredients so that it takes up the extra roomBe careful to make sure you do this correctly because baking can go wrong easilyTry this site: The Messy Baker-How to adjust pan size in baking by Charmian Christie on January 16, 2012
- Q: Everytime I make chicken breasts they come out semi-dry to dryI would like to know what I can do to avoid this10pts
- I usually take a chicken breast and wrap it in aluminum foil and add pepper or a marinade to itI usually cook it for about 45 min on 300 or 350, and the chicken juices come out and keep it moist.
- Q: So I'm going to place an order, and just wanted to be sure there's nothing I'm missing or if something is crucially wrong with my choicesI'm gutting my JG G36K, and putting in:-PDI 170% Spring (370-380 F/S)-Guarder V3 Spring Guide W/ Bearings-GP 6mm metal Bushings-Guarder Shim set-Guarder Aluminum Ventilation Piston Head-GP White PolycarbPiston-Star G36 Tappet Plate-Star G36 Air nozzle -Guarder V3 Stainless Steel Cylinder Head-A set of EA Gear Multicam BDU's.I'll be buying some white lithium grease at a hobby store, anything else I need?
- You left out the cylinder, but whether or not you intended to I don't know - it's not as if you actually need a new oneThe selector plate should still work great, and I'm going to assume you've already added a tightboreOnly think I can suggest is a new hop-up bucking and nub (A whole chamber wouldn't hurt, but, again, not necessary), and some low resistance wiringThe motor should pull the 170% just fineI know the piston head is aluminum, and lightweight, but it's going to put a lot more stress on the gearbox and cylinder assembly upon impact than a polycarbonate one, and adds more weightIt'll perform great, but just something to keep in mindGotta love MultiCam.
- Q: What distinguishes various types of aluminum foils found in the market?
-
Yes, there are differences among aluminum foils available in the market. These differences include thickness, which is measured in microns (the thinner the foil, the lower the micron count), affecting its strength and durability. Heavy-duty foils are thicker and better for grilling or roasting. There's also the finish, with some foils having a shiny side for better heat reflection and a dull side for food contact. Some foils are non-stick, making them easier to use with certain foods. Additionally, there are perforated and pre-cut options for convenience, and specialty foils like those with a non-foil side for double use.

- Q: The atomic mass of aluminum is 27.0, which is close to the average of the atomic masses of fluorine (19.0) and chlorime (35.5)From these data, do you think that aluminum should be placed between flourine and chlorine in a column of the periodic table? Explain.
- No, columns have nothing to do with atomic massColumns sort by valence electron configurationAluminum and halogens have wildly difference properties and as such should not be in the same column.
- Q: Wondering a perfect and great bat to use for a 14-16 year old!?!? aluminum and around $200 or less.thanks.
- I agree with TigrisTalk with your instructorI would be very nervous about putting aluminum foil in the kiln- afraid the aluminum would melt and go where it would cause problems EDIT: I think your sister is describing a process for making figures in polymer clayPolymer clay is baked to 275 degrees FahrenheitYou described putting your piece in a ceramic kiln that would probably go to 1800 degrees Fahrenheit That is a huge difference PLEASE TALK TO YOUR TEACHER
- Q: AND why might I use aluminum foil on the outside of a thermos made for a project? Why is it good?
- SHUTTER speed - no longer shudder !!!!!! would be a placing on your camcorder - examine the handbook - verify interior the camcorder menu - let us know what digital camera you have possibly somebody else has one and can permit you comprehend.
