- Research using solar panels on stock tank water pumps. Same concept - you use a solar panel to power a remote something or other, only you would have to use a battery charged by day to run the camera at night. It does not look like you would need too powerful of a solar panel, the camera server says it needs less than 5w, no idea on the cameras, so check that out, but the whole system looks rather low power. You could easily get the necessary panels, maybe the battery too, for... I would say $200 (not in one package, you would have to get separate things). Connection of everything would be simple, no electrician needed (but keep that to yourself, depending upon state rules and regs).

- Typically LED's run off low voltage and 20mA or so of power (it depends what kind of led you have). That being said if one of your solar panels only provides 22mA of power then your circuit would have to be a series circuit for you to connect more than one. In a series circuit the current supplied of 22mA will go through each LED whereas a parallel circuit the current would be divided for each subsequential led. So in your case i can see you getting away with 3 or so led's before the voltage drop across each led will cause the voltage to be insufficient enough to drive anymore. Keep in mind the LED's will turn on but the first one will be bright then next one not as bright and so on. If you opted out and bought a solar panel with 200mA and 4V you could wire the led's in parallel and get 0 led's to turn on with the same brightness or intensity. Hoped that helped!

- It sounds like you nor anyone at your home knows enough about solar to be able to hook them up no matter what type they are. I have to agree with others that they could be hooked up and you just can't see the connections. So the best thing for you to do is get a contractor to come out and check them out. It don't have to be a Solar Dealer because I am a dealer and I use electrical contractors to do the installs. A solar dealer is not always legal to install and normally do like I do and just design and sell the systems. However most any dealer can easly install a solar power system because they are trained just not legal to do the work. Having someone other then an electrician work on it could void the warranties.

- First find out from your electric company whether they allow grid tie systems. IF so then they can help you figure out what you need.

- good idea going solar, i would suggest doing a google search, as their are many suppliers. then you need to calculate the amount of wattage you think these apartment houses are going to require. volts x amps = watts. if you are going to be off of the power grid, then you will need a way to store excess energy during good times,( lots of sun) in order to use it during bad times ( no sun ). or see if you are able to sell your extra power back to your local power company, check because some companies do not allow this. you could even have a generator for emergencies if you go off the power grid. on final note, solar is a pretty sizable investment up front and your profits are seen mainly in the long run, but you will get energy savings immediately, but more likely those savings will go to paying off the solar panels also, you will need a converter to convert the ac (alternate current) produced by the panels into dc ( direct current ) which is used by the apartments. it will tie in to the existing electrical system in the apartments. i know germany is really pushing solar energy and they offer their citizens some pretty sweet deals to go solar. the companies are profiting from this so i would suggest looking for a supplier in germany, first. they may have better deals, or try bp (british petroeum) they have been in the solar business for awhile. i wish you success!
