Q:I bought lamanited flooring, the gentlemen that sold it to me said it was easy to install. I've done tile before so I believed him. I spend close to $400. worth. I ruin some planks because I tried to glue it. Anyway I would like to hire someone to do it, if not how can I do it myself. I know part of the problem is the floor is not even.

First unlike the guy said you don't have a subfloor problem these are just inconsistancies that comes with any thing you buy especially in lumber. Floor layers use a stuff called floor leveler it is easy to mix and easy to put down all you need is a flat troweland put a coat on the floor. It kind of works like a concrete trowel. Just put the stuff on the floor and let it dry then your best be is to put down some kind of underlayment. The profesinals will tell you a hard wood underlayment, like oak or white birch etc... I have yet to understand why they do that but most places won't warrenty the floor without the stuff. After you get that down all you have to do is lay your vinyl and you are done.

Q:Wax floor's have to be buffed stripped and waxed and other floor's usually a mopping.

Some flooring , especially in retail floors, need a top coat to protect the floor from all the foot traffic. Whats commonly applied isn t a wax but more of a urethane finish or top coating. When buffed it heats up melts and reapply s itself to the floor along with a shiny finish. Most vinyls for residential flooring no long requires a wax but a simple mop on polish. And yes it occasionally needs to be stripped and reapplied. But this to is a simple mop application.. This is for the same reason, its a top coating to protect the vinyl from foot traffic.. Q:I am about to remodel my kitchen in my mobile home. I am going to tile the floor, replace the cabinets and replace the sheet rock. I am not sure if I will replace the sheet rock with a backer board and tile the walls or with sheet rock and paint the walls.My question is, should I, after tearing out the old cabinets and old floor, install the new cabinets first then tile the floor or tile the floor then install the new cabinets?

As an installer myself I agree w/ slimp.. The one draw back is that if the cabinets need shimming a lot because of unlevel floor you may have to do something w/ the toe kick or a shoe molding. It does look much cleaner w/ tile under the cabinets. All you need to do is put tile 1 inch under the kick GL

I will second the answer that said to try Trafficmaster Allure. Home Depot sells it. Not expensive, very easy to install, looks good and lasts well.

Q:I am remodeling my kitchen and it has an industrial tile on the floor now (similiar to school flooring). I would like to put ceramic tile in its place. is it okay to lay the ceramic right over top if the floor is in good condition? or do i have to remove the laminate before placing the ceramic?

No ceramic floors need a level and stable subfloor. After removing the laminate, what's underneath? If it's a raised floor, you'll need to put down a layer of 3/4 inch plywood screwed down tight and level. Any uneveness in the subfloor will result in a cracked tile above.
