Q:thank u very much but sorry just wondering if wooden flooring would make a difference to the warmth of the floor
laminted flooring is a little cold but it look just as good as wood flooring and its probably cheaper than wood flooring to get it laid down it also last a long time my dad installed lamanete flooring lyk 5 yrs ago and it still looks good no chips or anything and many ppl wouldnt be able to tell the deference my aunts and uncles think we have real wood flooring and they come over my house lyk every 2 weeks so....i hope i helped
Q:Explain how oceanic-floor rocks and sediments are evidence with sea-floor spreading.
look up Alfred Wegener on wikipedia
Q:I am considering pulling up my carpet and painting the cement. I do not like the carpet, but I would not mind hard woods, but that is a little too much money. I have also thought of tiling the floors. How hard is it to pull the carpet up, ready the cement, and eventually paint the floor? How much money will I be needing? Suggestions please!
Painting concrete floors is a considerably long process, and the concrete floor should be prepared before applying paint to the surface.Proper surface preparation is one of the most important processes in painting concrete floors. The concrete floor must be degreased and cleaned before painting the floor. After the concrete floor has been degreased and checked for moisture, the floor should be checked for its profile. If the concrete is hard and unyielding, the paint will adhese weakly to the floor. To have a favorable profile on the concrete surface, the use of an acid etcher is essential. The best profile for a concrete floor to be painted upon is similar to the feel of medium sand paper
Q:The sub floor in my kitchen was nailed in. About 10 years ago I put down vinyl tile squares and within the past 10 years the nails have been coming up through the tile. I am about to replace the floor with a vinyl sheet, I don't want this to happen again so how can I prevent this without taking out all the nails in the entire floor and replacing them with screws?
If possible take up the old floor ( best to do) and put down a new sub floor commonly called luan. But this can go over the old subflooring. 1/4 thick and smooth on one side. Try not to use screws since the screw head can show through the vinyl. Use a staple gun or hand stapler. Rent this anywhere tools are rented. The staple is designed not to come back up. You can get a hand one or pneumatic gun. Then do the vinyl after the seams are treated.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar.. GL
Q:is there soil on the ocean floor
There are silt / clay deposits out toward the middle, and there is sand and other coarse deposits near shore. The heavier the particle, the sooner it settles onto the ocean floor when it is carried there by a river. And it's called sediment, not soil. Soil is a dry land phenomenon.. Plus, where there are plate boundaries, magma comes up and cools, forming basalts, etc.
Q:I need help finding out if the floor in the building I work at is capable of supporting a restaurant.I know an engineer should be hired, but my boss is an architect who thinks he knows. The question comes in two parts-1- 2 1/2" x 12" (actual) joists on 16" centers, 16' 6" long, made of 100+ yr. old western wood (presumably San Francisco area lumber). Are they capable of supporting 100 lbs. sq ft. load?2- If a wall (theoretically non load-bearing, but floor to ceiling, with two floors of apartments above) were put on the floor, parallel to the joist, would the joist underneath it need to be reinforced? If it makes any difference, the floor will be 4" x 4" ceramic tile, on two layers of 3/4" ply.
This is something that needs to be visually inspected. What it comes down to is, you would need permits to make this conversion and so the county is going to impose requirements. If you are serious about this project you should consider finding out what those requirements will be. If they include a structural engineer's drawing and approval, then you might as well get that ball rolling. I don't think you can go on anything anyone can tell you here. Sure it sounds like it has the potential of being adequate, but there is also potential for additional support needing to be added below, such as a beam perpendicular across the center on posts. Consider the combined weight of occupancy and service equipment on the entire floor. Look for any signs of stress, rot, infestation, water damage, trades over drilling, sagging, splitting, etc. These will be the determining factors. Chances are good that you have adequate support but my opinion on the matter is useless to you.
Q:We recently replaced our carpet with Laminate Flooring. Now, I am looking for an appropriate Vacuum Cleaner? If you know of a good vacuum cleaner which works good on Laminate flooring and does not damage the floor, please let me know. Thanks for your time.
Forget the vacuum cleaner - it will eventually scratch your floor to bits. Secure a dampened wascloth to your broom instead (by means of a hair bobble or rubber band) sweep over the floor and collect all the dust and hair without blowing it everywhere. I found this to be a much easier method and more thorough too. Try it.
Q:what is a traditional form of constructing a ground floor ?
Constructing is a big word it could mean foundation work for some, walls to another framing, masonry, finishes, decoration, painting, flooring, something that is learned over a lifetime or a paragraph in a textbook. The tradition could be Western, Eastern, Northern, Southern or any ethnic, geographical, or historical location or time on the globe. Even what is considered a ground floor is called the first floor in other parts of the world. So perhaps you could define your question a little more.
Q:How thick must the floor be over the joists? Does the thickness include the floor covering (tile)?
The spacing of the joists dictates the thickness of the floor decking wood. Common is 16 in on centrs. but others will alter that. No your structrual thickness is only based on the structrual material. In your case the plywood. About 25 years ago; a common practice was a 1/2 in sub floor. then a 5/8 in underlayment over. That was dropped do to cost as well as newer floor decking products became available. Today probably 99% construction is a 3/4 in. tongue and groove, some call sturdy floor applied to 16 in on centrs. Plywood products have stamps on them that indicate floor joist spacing and roof rafter spacing. The smaller number would be for the floor spacing.
Q:I have 3 rooms with shinny floors. I use swifter wet every day and i mop using fuller floor shine once a week. My floors don't shine like it should. What can i use to get my floors to look shinny.
If your floors are wooden then to get them really shiny use bee's wax. It is a bit smelly, time consuming and hard work but worth it! If your floors are tiled then use Astonish no rinse wood floor cleaner. It is better than anything else I have found. If none of these work you could try using window cleaner ive never tried it myself but I reckon it would work!
