Q:So I drunkenly put my elbow through my friend's passenger window in his jeep wrangler..he's pissed and is demanding $200 for its replacement or he's pressing charges. Yeah, nice friend. 200 dollars sounds like an astronomical amount for a piece of plastic that zips onto your car. Am I getting ripped off?
You're not getting ripped off... those things are surprisingly expensive.
Q:where to find plastic covering for basement windows?
If you're asking about plastic that can be used like glass panes, it is available in 4'X8' sheets at Lowes or HomeDepot. Fairly inexpensive. Cutting can be done on a table saw with a fine tooth blade, BUT, must be cut slowly as it will tend to melt from heat at the cut and stick together. File or sand off any rough edges that remain. If you're speaking of plastic sheeting, it comes in rolls about 10' wide. Available at same stores.
Q:Last night I went to get the wheaterization plastic for windows but grab a plastic drop cloth on accident will this still work ?
That isn't going to work the same. The only way to attach it to your windows is with a staple gun or nails. This sort of plastic isn't intended for indoor use outdoors...it will get ripped right off the house from the wind. Get the receipt take it back. I just covered 7 of my windows yesterday....here's a tip... When you get the indoor stuff and put up the tapes...let them sit on the window for a couple hours. Don't take all the tape off at once when you put up the plastic! That makes everything a PITA! Take the top piece off going across the 2 tapes runing down...peel those back just about 1 foot. Hang the plastic piece make sure as it hangs down, it covers both tapes reaches the bottom horizontal piece too. If it's off center, having just a bit of the sticky tape exposed makes moving the plastic so much easier. After you've peeled the tapes back the plastic is stuck to the tape...take a small soft hand towel run it along the tapes to make sure the plastic is fully stuck to the tapes the tapes are fully stuck to the window frames. Carful when heating the plastic! I use my heat gun, but if you've never doine this before...stick to a hair dryer. It's best to look at what your heating from an angle, because you can better see all the wrinkles getting smoothed out. Start with a small, easy window. If you screw it up, it's easier to fix. I melt one every year, but I've gotten really good at patching them!
Q:I am talking about the stuff you tape to the inside of your home windows and use a hair dryer to stretch it tight. It is supposed to keep single pane windows better at keeping in the heat. I live where it gets 30 degrees at night and 40-50 during the day in winter. Does anyone have experience with these products? Which type works best? Mainly, does it really keep heat in? OR does it keep sunlight heat out and balance out to zero help?
Yes, this stuff does work, and I don't think there is much of a difference between the various brands; though some are easier to work with than others. You could also try caulking cord. I discovered this stuff at Home Depot and it works really well, too. You put it over all gaps in the window and frame and smooth it down with your fingers.
Q:I need a price on a window 29x46 plastic frame slider window?
here's a true post. Amount: $3,295.00 Vinyl Replacement Windows Posted by: Jeremy in Granger, IN in Granger, IN. Purchased: March, 2009 Numbre of Windows: 10 Number Lineal Inches: 100 Brand: Vista Window Type: Double Hung Installer: Clear Choice USA of South Bend We had BEE Window quote us $14,000! Champion's quote was 8,400.00! We found Clear Choice and was amazed at the high quality for the great price of $3295.00!!! The salesman spent time making sure we understood the window as well as the entire installation process. The installers were great also, and fast. Everything went perfect. I would recommend Clear Choice over any other window company. They are located all over the U.S. I hope this helps
Q:Can I recycle envelopes if they have plastic windows?
Take the platic window off and recycle the paper envelope.
Q:Should I insulate just my single pane windows or my new windows as well? Also should I put the plastic on the inside, outside or both? Thanks.
Plastic on the inside. Putting it outside will subject it to wind and weather. It will be noisier and will not last all winter. If your new windows are double or triple pane, I would not do them. Look for places where drafts come in around windows, doors, fireplaces. Many of these can be sealed with caulk and are very efficient.
Q:Do they use glass or plastic for windows on aeroplanes?
It varies widely. Most airliners have acrylic windows and consist of multiple (usually three) layers. Acrylic is used for its strength - it's not likely to break, and it can withstand both high and low temperatures. The opaque acrylic is sometimes referred to as plexiglass. Areas requiring more strength, particularly cockpits which are in danger of hail, bird strikes and other dangers are usually multiple layers of acrylic and glass, with heating elements inbetween to keep the glass clear and prevent the formation of ice from obscuring the view. They are also sprayed with chemicals which helps the rain disperse on them and prevent the formation of fog and condensation.
Q:spruce up by stenciling on them. What sort of pre-clean should I do and what sort of paint will stick to a heavy plastic blind?
Blind or shade? Wash with TSP if its a blind, and use any paint you want, preferably stencil paint. Forget it if it's a shade. Paint will not stick to flexible plastic permanently
Q:In my bedroom I have an arc-shaped window over the regular window. There are plastic grids between the panes of glass for decoration. One of them fell to it's side. Is there a way to fix this without replacing the window? Thanks!
