Q:how to attach a bathroom sink?
what type of bathroom sink? pedestal - mount the basin on the wall at the appropriate height with lag screws, attach plumbing, and slide pedestal in place to hide plumbing marble/composite one piece - latex adhesive caulking on the top edge of cabinet, caulk to wall, attach plumbing in the proper location, it will also help hold it in place cast cowl type (ceramic) set in existing countertop with hole - adhesive tub and tile caulk, let dry before attaching plumbing porcelain bowl - use swing-style sink clamps provided (just like your kitchen stainless sink)
Q:In my bathroom, I have a ball-joint sink valve. Which means its a single rotating handle. Pushing it up turns it on. To the left, hot water. To the right, cold water. My dilemma is, if I push it all the way to the left, no water comes out. If I rest it in a certain position to the left, it sputters, and eventually cuts off altogether. In other words, its a pain in the butt to get hot water out. Im assuming it needs to be repaired, but could it also be that it is an energy saving faucet? As Im not sure.Anyways, if you are knowledgeable in the area of plumbing, I would greatly appreciate your diagnostic if you have one. Even if it isnt right at all, Id still be grateful for input.
There is a brass disc inside the tap which moves when you wish to choose hot water or cold water, and blanks off the water you don't need. This disk needs to be taken out and re set.
Q:I took everything out and it's still there. Smells like something rotting, I live in a condo. Any ideas what it is, and what I can do to get rid of it.
Maybe your sink is leaking and the smell is coming from mildew. Clean it with some bleach and warm water to kill some germs.
Q:Tried cleaning all pieces. Made rope of plumbers putty, slipped it under flange and then tightened down. Looks like most of putty oozed out. water does not drip from under sink, it just runs into drain.
I have used teflon tape with success in sealing threads on home projects. I have also used clear, silicone adhesive, Goop with good results. Plumber's putty was originally designed for cast iron fittings and not brass or pvc pipe fittings. Teflon tape comes in different colors where each applies to a specific type hook-up; liquid and gas. So, check the label before purchasing.
Q:I have tried draino, but I think I need to pull out the drain and remove the hair and stuff. It drains really slow. I don't know if I should call the landlord because it is something small. But I don't know how to remove the drain. do I just pull it straight out? there are no screws or anything, but it doesn't seem to want to budge and I don't want to break it since it isn't really mine. here is a picture of the type of drain I am talking about:http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/3b/Bathroom_sink_drain.jpg
If you cannot lift the drain cap straight out easily, the drain insert is held by a lever under the sink that is attached to the button that opens and closes the drain. It might be easier to remove the trap below the sink and flush it out. All metal and plastic drain traps unscrew by turning the ring around the place where different pieces join. After the ring is loose, the pieces separate easily. Put a pail or pan under the trap before removing it to catch the nasty water.
Q:If you are washing your hands, rinsing sink after brushing teeth, etc., the sink fills up with water. Does anyone know why this would happen? The only thing I can think of is that water covers the entire opening to the drain, and air cannot escape when water tries to move in.I have tried liquid de-clogging products, which seem to work a little, but the pipes are PVC, and pretty clean. I disassembled them and checked. Thanks!
The stopper might need adjusting, the over flow might be clogged and sink can't breathe
Q:Our house was built in 1992. The faucet is old and needs to be replaced. At one point we had purchased a Moen faucet, but the new faucet had like rigid pipe connections whereas the old one has what appears to be soft copper much smaller pipe connections. Im just wondering if this is something that is not easily done. Do they still sell the faucets with the soft copper lines? Or do we need a plumber to do this?
if your sink has shut off valves on it . you will be ok simply remove all the plumbing from shut off valve to sink . in replacement use specially designed sink supply tubes that are chrome and flexible it will be a snap and no plumber needed . not the solid looking chrome these are supply lines that are corrugated stainless wrapped around a pipe
Q:I live in the first floor of a two floor apartment. When someone in up-stair uses the kitchen sink, the dirty water flows back to my kitchen sink. It stays in the sink for couple of minutes then goes away. Sometimes the odorous water overflows and makes my kitchen floor very smelly. The super of out apartments seems to be struggling to find out why it is happening. He changed the pipe. cleaned it, etc. nothing seems to be working. DOes anyone know the cause. Please help! It snowed yesterday, and I do not have if that has anything to do with the situation.
you both share a common drain line and some body is putting grease down the drain and its choking the pipe, drain cleaner and a sink plunger might clear it if not then a small drum auger will help. then followed by lots of hot water, and tell your upstairs neighbor to refrain from using their sink until you finish clearing the drain, for best results bail out the water and have hot water ready to put in . people take for granted that all goes down ok but after time it builds up to the point of blockage that pipe is cold and it clings and just builds up to where a pea can block it. good luck and just changing a piece of pipe don't get the blockage I have a 35 foot drum snake and some times I barely make it to the clog it (the kitchen drain line) runs all the way to the main sewer line .
Q:How to choose a good basin ah? How about the musicians of the family?
Good table to see glazed, and the level of wear resistance. Like the musicians of the pot is made of glazed very good. Very smooth texture is better, that glaze is very thick.
Q:i smell a bad smell form the drain of my sink... i believe the contractor who installed it forgot to block off one of the pipes or something. suggestions on what might be the cause of the bad smell?
Hi Most bad smells on English fitted sinks emanate from the overflow system, also if you have two sink bowls the plumbing under the sinks for the combined waste outlets can be fitted incorrectly by the contractor ie sweep tee's fitted the wrong way round in should sweep in the direction of the water flow to the drain, most importantly there must be no back fall in the pipework it must have a fall towards the drain, also if you have the dish washer plumbed into the same drain pipework that can cause odour problems, You need a skilled plumber to cast is eyes on it and the problem should be easy for him to spot, you can bill the contractor. I against trade practise always bung of the overflow connection on my kitchen sinks they do not do the job they were meant for they are almost impossible to keep free of germs and smells its a total waste of time and tend to leak when the sink bowl is full you must always keep the water level below the overflow out let, if ever you left the tap running you would perhaps gain about two minutes before the water overflows the sink. After all that do you mean the outside drain gully? if you do the gully needs to be cleaned , that requires long arms and rubber gloves if the smells persist you have a drain problem , ie a dig up job, if the contractor did some underground work get him back to have a look. The bathroom sink smells usually come back through the overflow the same as the kitchen sink, you need to keep the trap under the sink spotless needs to been cleaned every few months the overflow itself is a source of smells and you need to squirt a cleaning fluid into the overflow out let, weekly cheers Bob a job
