Q:I heard a crackling sound inside my bathroom. The next morning, a small section of my sink exploded. Broken sink parts all over the counter. The sink is not plastic and is not clear as glass. The sink material looks gray/black almost like chalk but extremely hard/brittle. Why did this happen? Thanks!

Is this a fairly new sink? If it is, then it was probably installed incorrectly. It's probably wedged into its location with no wiggle room for expansion and contraction with temperature. This is what's causing it to fracture. If it's an old sink, then it might have gotten fractured over time, and this is the day for it to disintegrate.

Hi you can repair the sink with a epoxy resin that you can get in many colours. look on line also if you can apply on the underside of the sink. P.S If the damage was accidental you may be covered on your house insurance. You may be better advised to buy a new sink, your eyes will always be drawn to the repair when you use the sink. Q:My husband recently fixed a leak in the bathroom tub (sealed something) and obviously had to turn the water off while working on this. Since then the hot water in the bathroom sink does not work when we turn the faucet on (the cold water faucet does work and come out fine). Also not the kitchen sink has a delay when turning it off (water comes out about 5 seconds after turning off) Any ideas why this may be occurring?

He might not have completely turned the hot water valve back on at the water heater ( or if there is a cold feed that one has to be full open too. I doubt this is the problem though. I think somewhere in the process of fixing the problem small bits of rubber and crap in the pipes was pushed forward when he turned the water back on and got stuck in the hot water cartridge in the faucet. Have him shut the water off under the sink , remove the cartridge ( or stem) and put a rag over the hot water opening then turn the valve under the sink back on for a few seconds to blast out whatever is in the pipe. Then he can try to clean the cartridge out or evaluate the condition of the washer on the stem if it isn't a cartridge. Assuming the water came out full force when the cartridge/stem was removed it is resolved by cleaning or replacing. If no water came out, it is time to work your way back down the plumbing system to see that everything is turned on. Once you have eliminated everything you can, it will then make sense to call a plumber if the hot water still doesn't work.

it's not real hard. The hardest part is squeezing under the sink to tighten the fittings. Look it up on U-tube. There is sure to be at least one video. Otherwise google the instructions and you'll get more videos and written advice.
