- Wool carpet looks and feels awesome, but is tougher to maintain. I would not use a general carpet shampoo on it since they tend to be rough on non-synthetic fibers over time. For spot treating (spills, etc): Use a white cloth dampened with barely warm water and a few drops of clear dish washing liquid. White cloth and clear liquid just to make sure there's no color/chemical transfer. Blot it the way you'd get at any spill and then a dry cloth to get all that water up. For a deep clean: You'll be better off getting a professional in once a year or whenever the mess is too big to clean yourself.

- I think you mean Berber carpet. Why don't you simply go to a carpeting warehouse place and see if they have remnants and get them to bind the edges and then lay it down on the good carpet as a large area rug? I did that one place I lived and it worked out quite well. I also went to a place like Bed Bath and Beyond and looked for large area rugs that they have for kids going into dorm rooms and bought two rugs and laid them over my carpet. They were good for several years and when they got bad I rolled them up and threw them away and unrolled some new ones. I think they ran about $30 per rug.

- Yep, the vinyly/latex backed rugs can stain but a rug without any backing in the bathroom is a bad accident waiting to happen. You can forgo using a rug at all and just tell your family to put a towel down when they get out of a tub, clean under the rug often with a very dilluted mixture of bleach water or just deal with the stain. The rug will cover it anyway, huh? *grin* Congrats on the new flooring!

- Q:2 days ago when I came home I noticed that the toilet was leaking water and the whole bathroom floor was flooded. Even the carpet between the bathroom and the kitchen got soaking wet. My husband fixed the toilet and we immediately wet vac'd the carpet.I woke up this morning to this awful smell that was coming from the carpet. I called my apartment manager and he said he will send a carpet cleaner this afternoon.I really cant stand the smell and its giving me a headache.Plus Im kinda worried...Im not really sure that the carpet cleaning will help. (Im afraid that there is mildew under the carpet)Has anybody made the same experience and can tell me if carpet cleaning really helps?And if the smell doesnt go away or will come back does our manager HAVE to replace the carpet because of health reasons?!I'd be thankful for helpful advice.
- The manager should have a professional come in and dry your carpeting. We would never NEVER EVER clean wet carpet. You are only compounding the problem. The padding may have to be replaces. The smell is likely coming from the carpet off gassing because it is not dry. Pull the carpet back and place an air mover (not a fan) under the carpet. Have a dehumidifier going because if there is a lot of moisture you may get condensation. You want to get the moisture out of the air. Let it run for 2 days. Spray a Anti Microbial solution over the area. You should also check the walls and baseboards to see if they are wet and have those dried too. A professional water damage technician will make sure all that is checked. As long as you are not responsible ie caused the problem. The management is responsible. PS Put all your correspondence with the management in writing and document what happened. In case there is an issue when you move out. TAKE LOTS OF PICTURES Good Luck
- Q:My friend knocked over her beer on my rug and didn't tell me until the morning after... it smells pretty bad. Any suggestions how to get rid of it quickly and permanently? I don't have many tools to use but i can run to a drug store if i need to.
- Try a little washing up liquid in warm water and give it some elbow greece with a hard/soft brush depending on the rug type. If you have fabreeze then give a wack with that also, if not rub some lemon over it and leave a window open for it to dry.
