Q:I thought for sure it would be something with the brakes but Pep Boys says it is the wheel bearings that need to be replaced. Which would make some sense because it does shake above 60mph but I didn't think that had anything to do with stopping?

well i say anything above abec five is pointless (unless its bones bearing, well because they are the best) but i would go with abec 7s. theylle will get worn out faster so i would just buy bones red because they last and are cheap.

Q:Recently it moves from side to side a bit when you are driving. I has a horrible screeching sound when you drive. and it has a popping sound to it. I've been told it was the bearings. Possible the brakes too. I really don't want to give up on this classic car. So could anyone tell me or give me links to how to fix up the car. PRETTY PLEASE. That car has been with my family for a LONG time, so we really want to fix it and do it ourselves. Let's see, It's pretty much the axel/tires that we don't really know what's wrong. That's right, gat a HAYNES manual, the Chiltons are pure junk. Just ask the auto store to order you one, takes about 2 days. It discribes in detail, with pictures, how to do all the small, like wheel bearings, and medium stuff that a home mechanic can do. I am using a haynes manual to do my rear spiring, calipers, and disks, as well as the steering box on my '73 Chevy, they are the greatest. That's how I learned to work on cars, from a haynes. Incedently,, the wheel bearing are pretty easy, but you need to NOT drive the vehicle at all, as you can damage the spindals which the bearings go on, and that is costly and pretty much only a shop can do that kind of repair,, because of the front springs and ball joints. The bearings will be easy though.

Q:Im just wondering how important it is to clean and regrease a cars wheel bearing. Working as a bicycle mechanic, this is something I do on a daily basis to every other bike we work on. And so Ive always wondered why I dont hear about wheel bearing going out on cars, or why I dont hear about having them serviced...Im assuming they are sealed bearings, but still it seems like they should need serviced every so often. I drive an early 90s ford truck, nothing fancy. Is this something I should consider doing, or should I not worry about it unless they start making noise?Thanks!

Q:i just bought vapor XR3 inline hockey skates, and the bearings slow down the wheels more than i would like, so i was wondering which of these is smoother with less friction. keep in mind that the shop that i am going to has all ABEC rated labedas + swiss lite, and only up to ABEC 9 for bevo.

Swiss bearings are much faster and smoother for skating. When my brother upgraded from the bevo abec 9s to the labeda swiss elite bearings, I noticed a significant change in his game.

the bearings are press fit. you drive them out with a hammer and a punch. You need a hydraulic press to push the new bearings in place. The best way is to remove the swingarm and take it to the dealer to replace the bearings. The bearings usually get rusted up before they actually wear out. You might be able to clean them with solvent and regrease them.

Q:So i just bought some sector 9 ABEC 7 bearings. Is it ok if i buy the speed cream lubricant, take the bearings appart, and apply the lub without cleaning them? They are Like less then a week old (the bearings).

First off, they are a downhill bearing, if your street or vert skating i recumbent independent 7's. Second, speed cream is only really necessary when your bearings start to wear down and start to slow and make that horrible noise. if you put it in straight away it won't do much but collect dirt. so just wait a while.

Q:So, we have a map and we have to draw a cruises route on the map.The place where I started from to the line I drew is 15 degrees east from true north on a compass. The magnetic variation is 11 degrees east. Does that mean the compass bearing is 4 degrees east from north?I'm probably totally wrong. What's the true bearing? I'm confused :(
