Q:My husband has a dodge 3500 extended van that he uses for work. He is a floor installer, so he carries carpet, laminate, tile, and his tools in the van daily. We bought the van just over a year ago. He has put just under 40,000 miles on it (it has a totol of 211,000), and he is now on his 3rd set of bearings on the front. The van was upgraded by adding an extra leaf to the suspension on each side by the previous owner. It is a good sturdy van. The body is in almost perfect condition and it runs great, but it seems like we are always having to replace something for the front end. Is this a common problem, or could it be because of how it was modified? Is it that the front end is taking too much of the stess of the road and the load of whatever he's carrying that day? He just replaced the bearings 3 months ago, and now they are going bad again. (and that seems to be the trend, every 3-4 months they go bad)I was just wondering.Thanks
Use a bearing packer that you can hook to a grease gun, don't use the old hand method. Also make sure you are using grease suitable for disc brakes, this type of grease can withstand much higher temps without running out of the bearings. I use synthetic grease in my wheel bearings. Try it like this one time and see how it goes.
Q:Can anyone explain what the symtoms of main bearings being bad versus rod bearings? I think I have a slight rod knock and am going to try and replace the bearings but I wanted to know if I have to replace the main bearings too or if there is a way to know. Learn from this!!!! Bearing failure, for the most part, is from the use of inappropriate oil!!!! You should be able to access all bearings without removing the engine, but, you will have to remove the front pulleys and dampener. Bearings fail under high heat, or under sludgy oil passageways. If you remove your oil filler cap, and turn it over. THe underside reflects the condition of the whole engine internally. If it is brown or black waxy or flaky, your passageways will look the same. Read your owner's manual for the EXACT specification of oil to use in Honda. The conatainer should read 'Designed for use in Honda' or 'approved for use in Honda. I, personally, would never use anything but Mobil One or ELF oil that meets honda spec's. Usually, it's the rod bearings that begin making noises. They are the easiest to replace. Good Luck!!! GET WISE!!! Before working on this, use butyl cello-solve to de-sludge the engine and clean out the oil galleys. The oil drain should then remove the offending culprit that caused the damage!!!

The distance to the east is equal to cosine of 37 degrees times 15km = 12 km Sine of 37 degrees times 15km equals 9km So the first leg he ended up 12 km east and 9 km north of original position. Then to translate the 112 degrees, subtract it from 90 to get -22 degrees Cosine of -22 times 7km equals 6.5 km and Sin -22 times 7km equals -2.6km. The second leg took him 6.5km farther east and 2.6km south since the 2.6 was negative, it is in the direction south. Next, add the two together Cos + Cos for the travel east and you get 12 + 6.5 so he ended up 18.5km east of the starting point Add the Sines for the north/south directions. 9 -2.6=6.4 km north of starting position.

Go to your local library, search under Automotive Repair Manuals: Haynes, Chilton and such, look for the make and model. The manual will explain your husband what tools he will need and give him detailed explanation with pictures and/or drawings. If he find the book useful he can buy it at your local parts shop or bookstore.

No they are sealed bearings.If you have a bearing noise the most simple way is to buy a hub/bearing assy.NAPA can get them alot of the time when you got a noise up there its not the bearing,its the axel/C.V. joint.If the boot is ripped open it prabably needs a axel.The bearings don't fail nearly as often as the axels.

you use a cam bearing installation tool... i wouldn't recommend doing it yourself if you've never built an engine before. remember the rear bearing goes in first and you work forward toward the front of the engine.

In certain places yes. What ever bike you are a racing in Singapore will not NEED ceramic bearings so I would not worry about it.
