Q:I have a 2001 BMW 325i. I believe that we need to change the wheel bearing (passenger rear). You can check my other questions in case the diagnosis is incorrect...(help??)Does anyone have any diagrams, instructions on how to change them? Is it necessary to have them pressed on/off? (that would determine if I could do this at home or not. Please help, this is my sons car and he is in the military and doesn't have time or cash to spend on it. So mom dad are trying to help them out. Any advice or websites will be appreciated. Thanks, stormphyre
The okorder (fill out the form on the right) Once you get your new wheel bearing, you can take your old hub (with the old bearing) and the new bearing into a local repair shop. They will press out the old bearing and press in the new for much less than a complete job. You can then take the hub with the new bearing and put it back into your BMW. The rest is just wrench work.
Q:hello, i had a oil leak in my car witch ended up in a seized engine, i have taken the sump off and taken off the bolts of the conrods and the shells are very damaged, it seems i can now turn over the engine when the conrod bearings are removed, if the conrod bearings are damaged does this meen that the shells on the main crank bearings will be damaged aswell? would it be possible to replace these bearings without removing the crankshaft, also one of the conrod bolts is a little bit rounded off , how would i take this of and could i buy new bolts ? thanks
Sounds like this engine is finished. Dont waste any more of your time on it, find a used engine and just replace the one in the car with the used one......
Q:Its a yamaha r6 2002 model and im trying to remove the back wheel bearings.I have pulled the oil seal off and the circlip but cant get any further. The bearings arnt moving when i tried to tap them out.Do i need to take the wheel to a dealer to press the bearings out with a special tool made for the job or is there a way to remove them on my own and how do you put the new ones back in? Any advise would be greatly appreciated as i need my bike for work and at the moment its in bits and cant put it back together until this is sorted.
The Sharp side faces Outward,,away from the bearing. Note the Condition of the Inner Bearing Spacer. Occasionally they'll get mushroomed a bit. They're Soft, crappy metal,,,,yet their Length is a Critical Dimension. If it appears to show any deformation around the ends,,,flaring, mushrooming,,,or any other signs of compression yielding,,,,thats NOT Good. It's very possibly now Shorter than spec'd. Which loads the bearings incorrectly.
Q:I have a 98 Jetta GL and my left rear shock absorber has begun leaking fluid in the past month or so. I have also had issues with the bearings wearing out, so I had them replaced less than 2000 miles ago. But now these newly installed ones are giving me the telltale signs of going-to-crush-soon. Could a failing shock absorber cause uneven wear/premature failure of my rear wheel bearings? I know that the bearings were installed packed correctly. Also, on the hub assembly the nut that goes on just before putting in the cotter pin tends to loosen after about 50 miles of driving. I continue to tighten it, then back it off slightly but the problem still occurs. This occurs on BOTH rear wheels. I am at a loss for what can cause this. Help! Thanks!
HI no shocks don't cause ware on bearings... did you get the ring back on the goes over the nut that you install the cotter pin Thu? That holds he nut from turning and backing out.. good luck tim
Q:i am building a jet engine and have run into a problem with bearings, i would d like to have custom made ceramic bearings but as you are probably aware this can be very costly especially having them made up in small runs, i basically need to know how to measure them. the way i have seen is CxYxZ in that format i need to know which measurement is which and the kind of fittings for different bearings.many thanks in advance
okorder . The bore size is simply five times the third and fourth digits together. 0 through 3, however, are different: 00 10mm 01 12mm 02 15mm 03 17mm See links below. Good luck with your engine! Bill
Q:The Model is a Hustler. And it was bought around '76-'75. Would it take any kind of bearings or a certain kind? And where can I find a pair of trucks to fit?
any
Q:On a big truck that holds a 3 pc. drive line and has 2 carrier bearings, is it best 2 keep the bearings level?
It is important to keep the bearings square with the drive line. The whole point of having the bearings to support the multiple piece drive line is so that the shaft doesn't need to be absolutely level with the frame, or to be absolutely straight from the transmission to the differential. THE ONLY CRITICAL angle is that the mating surfaces of the transmission and the differential must be within a tolerance of 1-1/2° of each other. The OTHER critical issue is that all of the bearing bosses must be square with each other. If the number 1 joint is positioned at 12 o'clock, then numbers 2 3 must also be at the same index or the driveline will grow under load and at speed ( 40 MPH) and will exhibit a server vibration. Good Luck
Q:Is it possible to replace some from the oil pan? Please dont say i need a new engine etc. im only concerned about the bearings.
I do not consider that is true
Q:how can loose fits cause failure in bearings? and in particular affect the outer diameter?i am seeing a failure catalog for bearings, and i read : discolartion and scoring is the result of the outer ring slipping in the housing. why outer ring?
The usual condition for the shaft to turn in a bearing is the inner surface of the bearing where the rollers or balls contact the shaft. This location is usually well lubricated and the contact area on the shaft is very minimal. Very little friction is generated and therefore very little heat is generated. If the outer race, surface, spins in the support a very high unlubricated contact surface is present and considerable heat is generated. This is known as spinning a bearing and it is not good and usually the result of the bearing race not fitting tight enough. If the friction fit in the bearing support is less than at the bearing / shaft the bearing will spin and generate heat. The heat will discolor the shaft and the individual bearings will be scored. The bearings out side diameter must be such that a tight fit is achieved when the bearing is installed.
Q:i shanged all the bearings and it ran fine for 20 minutes then started spitting and shaking and making pfft noises when i hit the gas.like this vrooom pfft vroom pfft pfft vroom offt pfft pfft pfft bang pfft pfft vroom. if that makes sence lolso im thinking its the timing or the engine is not good any more.DO YOU THINK ITS THE TIMING?and can you refresh my memory on tdoing timing?make sure the number 1 cyl is up and the distributor is in the number 1 possition. then make sure its just barely over top dead center and thats about it right?
First mistake: nickel-and-diming engine repairs. You broke the crankcase seal to replace your bearings, now you are chasing a golf ball on a one-hole par 1 course. Your timing marks for crank and cam gear should meet vertically straight depending on the make/model. The rotating assembly is a precision-balanced instrument with extremely close tolerances, if any part is thrown off balance you have compromised its integrity. Second mistake: you didn't state year make or model of car. Not all are created equal.
