The sink didnt have an overflow hole, but I didnt think that I would have a problem until my girlfriend left the water running with the drain closed!What I want to know is if it would be practical to do something like drill a hole in the sink and somehow add an outlet that would connect to the drain. Does this even make sense, or should I try something else? Any help would be appreciated.

assuming that the hot water taps are piped up, there maybee an isolation valve on the hot water pipes in your bathroom some where! follow all the exposed pipes in your bathroom and in any airing cupboards near your bath room for a small valve!! also it could be that your boilers pressure is low ant the water just simply isnt pumping your hot water far enough

Q:Ok I was washing my bathroom sink with some sort of cleaner and apparently it was not the right kind. Since then the sink does not drain properly (dirty water stays in it for days and days) and there are a million little hairs (from shaving) stuck in the basin. It seems it melted whatever material it is made out of (some kind of ceramic, i think). Not only is it gross and hard to use (I cant run water for very long or it will fill up) but I am also afraid what it is going to cost. Does anyone know how I can fix this, or how much it is going to cost (to be taken out of my apartment deposit)? Thanks.

A rather unpleasant answer, but here goes. What goes down your bathroom sink drain is known as "Grey Water". It consists of water (naturally), hair, soap, shampoo, dead skin, shavings and other nasty things. Your bathroom sink drain is most probably slower to empty than your actual bath, hence the "gunk" is not flushed away. To alleviate the problem, obtain caustic soda crystals, take out your plug, pour as much crystals as you can into the drain, leave overnight if possible, the water in the u-bend will be enough to start the crystals working. Rinse through with hot water in the morning, job done. NB, treat caustic soda crystals as toxic and strong alkaline, take precautions as regards eyes, hands etc, and ensure all the soda has gone before using the sink. You may have to do this more than once, but it does work.
