Q:Will the cement board on the decoration be used to blow it directly?
Wall putty method: (1) the current putty are basically finished products, watered into a paste can be used directly. (2) with a scraper directly to the wall scraping like putty can. (3) If the wall is not smooth like the first plaster leveling, and then putty putty. (4) putty is usually horizontal scraping 2 to 3 times, every time between the need to dry through (summer and autumn without the need for interval of 24 hours, rain and wet weather need to extend the interval), scraping the next putty to use fine sandpaper on the front Put on the putty to polish, and then sweep away the dust.
Q:This is behind my vinyl siding and above my drop tile ceiling.
It would most likely be asbestos because nobody in there right mind would cover Hardi with vinyl.
Q:I am in the process of purchasing a townhome and I am looking to tear up the existing 12 ceramic tile that covers the entire main level... an area close to 600 sq. ft. to make way for laminate flooring. Thinset has been used to bond the tile to the cement backer board, and the backer board has been screwed to the wooden subfloor. There is also some sort of adhesive/mortar bonding the cement board to the wooden subfloor. What tools will I need. Are there any techniques that would make it easier? Would trying to remove the cement board damage the subfloor? If so, would it be acceptable to repair damage with some sort of floor leveling compound?
Laminate sucks, but why don't you put it on top of the tile, or on top of the backer board?
Q:I came into many buckets of GAF TOPCOAT liquid which says it can be sprayed onto a roof or rolled on. I've only found one other idea for the walls in my wet room/shower area which is flexcement that is waterproof. Is it a good idea to try this or not. Really don't want to mess it up after putting much money into the walls as is. Here is the site that describes the product.
bad idea. you are writing about a roofing material and your cement board already is the right material to use. topcoat means just that. is the GAF product to be the finish of your bath? course not!
Q:Then I have to install marble in replace of this tile. I have laid a lot of ceramic tile but I being told that marble is a real pain in the but. I just started my business and this will be my first big job. Please give me your input. I live in Denver Colorado. Thank you
Mexichik covered it for the most part, I'd like to add a few things though. If its a light colored tile, back butter the tile too. The trowel marks can show through if you don't. Also, you should seal the tile before you grout at least, but Its recommended to seal it before even installing it. It is a pain but thats why you get more money for installing stone. And be VERY careful, marble scratches so easy.
Q:We're tiling our basement. The floor is plain concrete. Do I need to put a layer of plywood, then a layer of cement board, then the tiles, or do I just need a layer of cement board then the tiles?
You don't need either if the concrete is smooth & level; just properly troweled cement. If the concrete is not smooth, lay a plywood sub-floor, then cement the tile down. Cement board is used on walls for ceramic tile, when water is present.
Q:I have a small bathroom approximately 4'x8' and I laid down and screwed in cement backer board. However, in my attention to detail I neglected to put down thin-set mortar underneath prior to screwing and taping down the board. I tried to pull the cement board up but I cant get under the tape that I mortared down to get to the screws. Am I in trouble here or can I go ahead and skip that and continue to tile? Please help...
I have not seen thinset used under the cement board unless the surface had high/low spots. As long as the area is flat, continue on.
Q:What is the difference between cement board decoration and gypsum board?
Steamed into a new type of building plate. With the advantages of light, high strength, waterproof, anti-corrosion, large format, good processing, improve the efficiency of construction, in the interior decoration, the general when the wall needs to tile, with cement board hanging, can withstand greater weight , To avoid wall off.
Q:I have 9 asbestos tile on concrete floor. Can I put cement board over tile this then install ceramic tile?
You cant put cement board over a cement floor ( even over the tiles like you want) and expect it to hold and be firm enough for ceramic tiles. If you were on a wood subflooring, covering the tiles are ok as long as you don t do anything to them. You can encapsulate asbestos tile as long as you don t mess them up such as sand or remove them.. Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar and check my qualifications there. GL
Q:What kind of mortar do you use to tape joints in cement backer board?
thin set. the same mortar you use to set the tiles with.
