Q:I have a new apartment with wood floors and need to soften up part of it for sitting, yoga, stuff like this. I love Persian rugs but can't afford one. I'm wondering, what about an area rug that is basically carpet you would find in somebody's house... only not installed or glued to the floor. Just a roll of carpet. I don't know the terminology. This doesn't have to be fancy. What is the best way to go about getting such a thing? Do carpet stores have surplus carpeting laying around if you don't particularly care about style or size? Thanks for any replies.
A carpet remnant (back of store) cut to the size you want with the edges bound (the store will do it) is quite acceptable. If you want, you can have, say, a 4x6 piece of carpet in one color, then, say 12-wide strips, of a second color on the edges. An example: cream area with brown border. I did that for a very nice rug. It can be any two colors you find in the remnants section of the store. Carpet comes in standard widths, one of which is 12'-wide. If you want a rug that large, you can buy the length you need (say 9' for a 9x12 rug) and have the edges bound. This lets you buy any color of carpet they have, not just what's available in remnants. If you want two rugs, one for the LR and one for the DR, the 12' can be cut any width, so you could have two 6x9s or a 6x9 and a 5x8 (with some left over), etc. If the carpet is still on the roll, you must buy the entire 12' width. The carpet store will do all of this for you, for a small price, even help you figure out sizes. You can check OKorder for persian and persian-type rugs -- some are new, others are older but still beautiful. (Some older persians are worth more than new ones because they're better quality (more knots per square inch) and/or have the patina of age.) Check the listing's wording carefully as to its condition (you want at least good, and they'll tell you if there are any worn ares, and look at the pictures (there'll be a pic of the worn area if there is one). I've bought several, all in good or excellent condition, and they looked new, are beautiful, and will outlast me. If you have any questions, ask the seller. Also, stores like Wal-Mart and Sears sell persian-type rugs that are machine made for a lot less than a real persian. Put a good pad under any rug, 4 smaller so it doesn't show, for greater softness.
Q:my friend and I are going to be rooming together at UGA. we want to get a rug, but a big size (8x11) to cover most of the floor would be really expensive. would it be better to get a carpet instead?
I would go w/ brown and black like the sofa.... but I don't know about the the dark blue carpenting w/ all that. The sofa won't really go w/ that. I know u can't control that but just thought I'd mention it
Q:we moved into a new house...the carpet is really very very messy..my apartment guys refused to change the carpet....looks like it has not been cleaned for months...they are number of stains on the carpet(very old ones).....i have new bisell carpet cleaner...but it is of no use.....i hate to see my carpet like this...is it possible to make it look like a new one....plzzzzz help
If it is white you could try to bleach it, or if it's colored you could try to use a bleach for colors. If all else fails you could always cover it with an area rug (a really big one or several).
Q:How to stick to the carpet tiles
Duct tape is to stick firmly, another is to use adhesive paste, a strong degree of no problem is removed.
Q:Someone spilt some blue WKD on my cream carpet and I've tried carpet stain remover, white wine and an industrial carpet cleaning machine. Are there any other ways which will remove the stain?
I don't know what wkd is, but here is a way to remove most stains that can be removed. A cup of warm water with 2 drops of a liquid laundry soap, mix well. Using your fingers dampen the carpet fibers. Try not to get the back of the carpet wet. After the carpet is wet , make a big pile of white paper towels on top of the wet spot. Now put a weight on top that will not rust or bleed from the water. Maybe a cookie sheet with a brick on top. Leave it covered for 12 to 24 hours. Remove . Look at the paper towel if the stain has transferred to the paper you are on the right track. Just keep doing it until its gone. There is a chance that the wkd has removed the color from the carpet and you can not fix it. Also you may have set the stain with the wine. For your information carpet cleaners have equipment and stain removers that home owners can not buy. Calling a carpet cleaner is a lot less money than replacing the carpet. One last word , your home owners insurance company may cover the cost of replacement.
Q:or any carpet for that matter disintegrate around the edges near outer doorways? It hasn't been wet either. I mentioned cheap because my Land lady doesn't get the expensive anything. What could cause it?
Sounds like a really old or really poor quality carpet. Even the cheaper carpets should last a long time if there is no traffic. I suppose it is possible to find a carpet material that is so bad that it will begin to rot away after only a few years, but normal landlords don't buy that kind. The want the kind that will last for a long time. I can't think of anything that could cause the problem you described other than extreme age or extremely bad quality. Mayan
Q:What good is a carpet?
Carpet insulation effect is good, in winter, warm effect is reflected, the first visual warmth, and then the texture.
Q:Carpet size abroad. What's the size of this carpet?
The carpet, in cotton, hemp, wool, silk, grass and other natural fiber or synthetic fiber raw materials, by manual or mechanical process of knitting, woven tufted or ground paving material. It is one of the arts and Crafts categories with a long tradition in the world. It covers the floors of houses, hotels, gymnasiums, exhibition halls, vehicles, ships, planes, etc., and reduces noise, heat insulation and decorative effects.Carpets (carpet), is a kind of textile fabric, laying on the ground, as the furniture decoration facilities, landscaping Home Furnishing, insulation and other functions. In particular, there are young children or elders in the family who can avoid falls and injuries.
Q:I have a large oriental rug that needs fringe. On one end, the fringe has been cut off completely. The other end has a few inches of the mesh rug backing at the end. Is there a way to add fringe and make it look fairly original to the rug?
Sure you can. The most authentic method would be to use a 2-ply wool yarn and a darning needle. Pull them through in the right place, carefully putting 2 loops in each hole of the mesh. Use a piece of cardboard about 4 inches high and the width of your rug to keep your loops even. When you get to the end, go back over the spots where your loops come through the rug and use a backstitch to catch the thread of the first with a thread of the second...anchor it...do the same thing to do the thread of the second (which is part of your first tie) to the thread of the third. Keep going until they're all anchored. Then if you want cut fringe, go back over your threads and tie them a second time about 1/2 lower than where they're sewn down. Once your little pairs are tied, snip the bottoms open. The other option won't look as authentic, but it works. You can buy lengths of fringe in the trim section of a good fabric store. Buy a length that's about 5 longer than you need for each end (so you have enough to turn under at each end). Stitch it down by hand as no machine will sew well through a rug. Use a little Fray Stay or superglue on the ends to keep them from unraveling.
Q:I just bought a new carpet for my room. It looks great, but wool keeps on coming out of it. Will it ever stop? Is ther anything i can do to make it stop? Please help
many times, when they cut the fibers for the carpet design, the small 'fluff' remains imbedded for awhile.... vacuum often and after a couple weeks, it should be fine!
