Q:I have extremely hard water, and my water softener has been broken for a few years. There's been quite a decrease in water pressure. I'm assuming this is from hard water deposits in the pipes. Is there anything that can be done about it? Can they be flushed out?If so, do you have any idea of what the cost might be? I'm sure it wouldn't be cheap.
Sweating (soldering) pipe is tricky even at the best of times and even when done by an expert. a) Solder can go bad - but it is obviously so, crumbly and so forth. If he was using shiny plumber's solder that came off the spool normally, it was fine. b) Proper fluxing an cleanliness is the key to good solder joints. If the pipe was not cleaned properly, or if he did not use the correct flux, the process will be an exercise in frustration. My guess is that he may have been using either lead-free solder with old flux, or old lead-based solder with in incompatible flux, or no flux at all. He may also have been using a torch that was burning improperly letting carbon build up on the areas to be soldered, or an old tank of propane that was not allowing the torch to heat properly. 1. Clean the pipes and fittings either with a fitting cleaner, sand-paper, medium steel wool or other method that leaves a bright, shiny contact-surface. 2. Obtain the correct flux and use it liberally on the fitting and the pipe end. 3. Use a good torch with fresh propane - or a Presto-Lite and acetylene - but one that gives a clear, blue flame when in use. 4. Heat the fitting and pipe, not the solder. Work from the fitting to the pipe as you want to draw the solder into the fitting. Move the torch around the fitting occasionally running onto the pipe a bit. 5. Touch the solder to the fitting on the other side from the flame. When you observe the bead form on the fitting all around - STOP THERE. 6. Wipe the completed joint with a cold, wet rag saturated with clean water. This removes the excess flux and sets the fitting. Good luck with it.
Q:Beauty stuffClothingSafetyStuff for funanything! :]
It's Boo. I've read the book about 3 times.
Q:do they really work, and what are the best kinds, which ones worked best for you?
Visit your local fabric store. I use heavy felt for photographing a lot of things. Most of them will also carry muslin fabric in a variety of colors.
Q:My smoke detector is incessantly chirping and needs to be replaced. But it is hardwired to the ceiling and I'm not sure how to get it out. It has a battery compartment on one side and then three wires connected to it but I'm not sure how to get them out. Can anyone help me?
Other than gluing , smaller sections of pipe can be fused (melted)together. Fusing is a common technique in industrial and civil applications and for joining types of plastic pipe for which there isn't a solvent based glue available. HDPE (High density Poly Ethelyene) is an example of a thermo plastic, one which is joined by heat and not a solvent based glue. PCV (Poly Vynil Chloride) pipe like what you would find at home depot uses a solvent based glue. The solvent based glue chemically softens and joins the pipe sections together without the use of heat. The attached link shows a mile long section being fused together as its being pulled into an old pipe. Fused joints do not require addtional pipe fittings like couplings. Couplings used in glued PVC joints are larger diameter than the pipe and would not be able to be pulled through an old pipe section with a significant loss of inside pipe diameter. Fused joints are nearly the same outside diameter of the pipe and do not require a coupling fitting. As a result the fused pipe can be pulled into an old section of pipe and use nearly the entire inside dimension of the old pipe. The process of placing a new pipe inside and old pipe is called slip lining. It is a means to rejuvinate and old leaky pipe without he need to dig up all of the the old pipe.
Q:How are the sleeve couplings joined?
A sleeve type pipe joint is a kind of hard sealing joint
Q:It's been beeping since I got home yesterday afternoon. I obviously don't have any carbon monoxide in my house, because i would have noticed in the past 26 hours (still opened windows and turned off heat to be on safe side). I've even unplugged the detector from the ceiling, but some thing in the wiring in the ceiling keeps beeping. It's driving me and my dog insane. Any one know to get it to stop?
deadbolt is locked and key will not turn and is stuck in lock
Q:So I was going through a smaller street way and didn't notice that there was a sharper turn up ahead and I ended hitting the curb and a fire hydrant now my passenger side wheel is way off an I have to turn my steering wheel about a whole rotation left to go straightthe wheel was pushed back and inyet nothing is leaking and 3 Mechanics have looked at it and told me that it looks fine. They're all family so I highly doubt theyre trying to mess with me.The vehicle is a 96 accord and I was doing about 30 mphAny help would be greatly appreciated and thank you for your time.

well, there is a sucker born every minute or something like that. that outfit is looking for pockets to pick.
Q:What are the connecting forms of industrial pipe joints? Like buckling type connection,
The quick joint is a pipe joint which needs no tools and can be quickly disassembled and assembled. It has the advantages of compact structure, small size, light weight, high pressure resistance and interchangeability
Q:So,i want to make a Anthony van Leeuwen microscope replica, and i need to make a 1-2 mm glass sphere.I have my torch ready, protective eyewear and gloves, but i am still reluctant to melt glass. Wont it shatter?Any tips on what glass to use?And to prevent shattering?
The absolute easiest way is to soak overnight with Coca Cola every couple of hour before you go to bed drip a little on each of the fittings, and let it froth and foam use fresh Coke not flat
