- The cheapest and easiest way to repair a leak in a copper pipe. If you do not have the tools and experience, is to 1.)determine the size of the pipe, 2.) if it is a elbow, straight piece aka coupling etc. Then go to Home Depot and ask for Shark-Bite- Fittings needed to complete repair. You then follow instructions and assemble. No need to use fire/ torch, and wait for house to drain etc. As long as you follow instructions, the repair will be easy and will not come apart. This is a much safer way to make a repair in copper pipe. If it is a tight repair and/or a section of pipe must be replaced, you can use cpvc (yellow looking pvc pipe), copper tubing. I have used Shark-Bite Fittings, ***Very Important***, is to follow instructions

- Yes, the pipe threads are the same However - The 40 80 refer to what water pressure the pipes and fittings are designed to handle - 40 psi 80 psi. That's why the pipe wall on sch 80 is thicker. Mixing the two is a bad idea. You'll either waste money buying heavy-duty sch 80 for a system that stays within the 40 psi limit of of the lighter pipe, or you'll waste money and time replacing the lighter parts when they blow out at the higher pressure.

- I am a plumber and you do not want to use an all cpvc adaptor you are asking for trouble they will certainly leak. plus it is better to use thread sealent paste rather than the tape this is because the tape has a habit of coming undone when screwing the pipe together. If you mess up and put the tape on in the wrong direction you have to take it off and start over with the paste you don;t you get it right everytime. The second link is a picture of the type of fitting you will need. The first is to explain why you need a cpvc to metal adaptor not just cpvc adaptor. For a plastic-to-steel pipe transition (Fig. 3), you'll need a male adapter that will secure the plastic unthreaded pipe to the female-threaded steel pipe fitting.
