Q: We have a big garden, and we often have a few of the neighbours' cats wandering around in it at any one time. My kitten is 10 weeks old and he's had his shot for cat flu, but not for cat AIDS or leukaemia (gets those in a couple of weeks). Is he old enough to be introduced to the garden? And if so, would it be safer to wait until he's vaccinated against AIDS, or doesn't it matter- I can't see how a kitten could get AIDS, to be honest. The vet said there was a lot of cases in our area though. Also, my mum's worried that if we let him out in the garden, the older cats from the local neigbourhood might think he's invading their territory and attack him. Would they do that?I'd like him to be a mostly outdoor cat, as we have a lovely garden but a very small house (and he's trashing it :P) He's very strong and vivacious so I'm not worried about him being afraid of the grass or anything (like my dog is lol)Thanks for your help! :D
I think it should be fine, although it would probably be wise to go out there with him for the first while. Also, if you know the plants you have in your garden, to check online as to which ones might be poisonous to cats. If you're in the clear there, it should be fine with shots just a couple of weeks away, especially if you're hanging out with him there anyways. Hope that helps!
Q: Miami Gardens sounds like a tranquil tropical paradise, why was Trayvon up at Sanford instead of his actual place of residence?
I thought you were the expert on this. You post non stop about it yet you don't know why he was there.
Q: I'm selling home garden gifts, as well as baby shower type gifts... Any ideas would be appreciated - i'm working on my domain name, and store name... Thanks! BTW - last name is Gordon if that can be worked in...

Q: recipe for tamales, better homes and gardens magazine, december 2004 issue, i think it was on the last page?
Ingredients 1 2 1/2 lb boneless pork 3/4 c Shortening 10 c Water 6 c MASA HARINA 1 md Onion; quartered 1 1/2 ts Baking powder 3 Cloves garlic minced About 50 dried corn husks; 4 c Red chili sauce Instructions In a 4 1/2 to 5 quart dutch oven bring pork, water, onion, garlic, and 1 1/2 t salt to boiling. Simmer, covered, about 2 1/4 hrs until meat is very tender. Remove meat from broth and cool Using two forks, shred meat, discarding fat. You should have 3 1/2 to 4 c shredded meat. Strain broth and reserve 5-6 cups. In a 3 quart saucepan, heat the red chili sauce and add shredded meat. Simmer, covered about 10 minutes. For MASA: beat shortening with a mixer on medium for 1 minute. Stir together MASA HARINA, baking powder and 2 t salt. Alternately add MASA HARINA mixture and broth to shortening, beating well after each addition. Add just enough broth to make a thick creamy paste. Soak corn husks in warm water for 5 minutes then rinse to remove and corn silk and debris. Drain. To assemble each tamale, spread 2 T MASA mixture in the center of a husk. Place 1 T meat sauce in the middle of the MASA. Fold in sides of husk then fold up bottom. Place a mound of extra husks in the center of a steamer basket in a dutch oven and put tamales in basket, open end up. Bring water to boiling. Reduce heat. Cover and steam 40 minutes, adding more water as necessary. Microwaving for a couple minutes works too. From: Better Homes and Gardens, December 1994
Q: I want to stretch a garden hose along the wall of my mobile home to keep it off the ground. What kind of hook do I need?
electrical 1 hole straps would work. look in electrical department at lowes and such.
Q: Lets say, two bedrooms, one bathroom and a small garden or similar, how many acres does that take up on average?
that would be best on about a 1/2 or 3/4 of an acre.
Q: Which chair is prettier and comfortable? Pics are included...?
To me, the best look and most comfy chair is the leather Swivel Chair in White. But I like simple and elegant and not busy/flashy and trashy. So, that's just my opinion.
Q: Why do they keep trying to put all my questions in home and gardening today?
Because you forgot the water the garden.
Q: I just read in my local paper that tilling the garden every years is NOT a good idea! I have a small community garden which a neighbor dutifully tills for us, does an amazing job, but the article said that too much tilling upsets the eco-system of the soil.Any thoughts and advise on this before we till for spring (we live in Cleveland, OH)
tilling does foul up some stuff..... the microbial activity, (mycorrizhae/mycelium) for one....they're not made for being exposed to air... and like was said, the worms ain't much happy about it either..... now, the big difference between what the farmer does when he tills and what you do in a home garden, is the biggie.... the farmer goes once across the field, right?... whether he has mule/horses or tractor or HUGE monster dealie, it's ONCE across and bingo. he's got furrows..... at home, with the little Mantis tiller or a hand steered motorized tiller, folks tend to go over and over and over the ground till it's nice and soft and crumbly... am I right?.... it's those more than once passes that do the damage...... once you have tilled a bed, like last year when you started that one....you tilled, added ammendments and it should only need turned with the shovel this year.... actually, only where you intend to plant.... just cover the whole area with fresh compost and let the wormies do the 'tilling'.......they'd rather work, eat and poo, than get cut to bits.....
Q: suggested category Home Garden gt; General - Home Gardenhahahaha
