Q:Why is the government raiding farmers markets and wanting to inspect home gardens?????Why do they feel they need to knock off competitors
Give me a link on inspecting home gardens that are for personal use only and not selling to the open market. Edit: I read your links. Two are opinion pieces and to quote from one: ....local, independent, straight to consumer sale of milk. And what was the dairy farmer selling? Unprocessed, plain milk, which the USDA is working state to state to make illegal, using food safety' as the argument and treating real milk as though it were a major threat to US public health. Frankly, I would not buy unprocessed milk from ANYONE. Would YOU? Don't know anything about cows, do you? The third link is a message board, very much like YA. Do you think there is anything anyone can take seriously on that page?
Q:I have a nice little spot to plant a garden; I'd like to do herbs for my cooking. It gets morning sun, till about 1pm. Any suggestions?
Spearmint. It will grow (almost like a weed) even in the shade.
Q:You are designing a new tile floor for a customer who is adding a room to her home. The room will be square and the customer wants a design set in the middle of the room that is also a square. The customer has not yet determined the size of the room, but knows the design square must be 3 feet by 3 feet. Therefore, you must use a variable to represent the measurement of the room. As part of your presentation to the customer, you need to include the cost of the new floor. The tile for the room is $4.00 per square foot and the tile for the square inset is $5.00 per square foot. For now, you are not including the cost of labor.
This is not a Home Garden question. This is a math or homework question. It isn't even a question. It's a problem, and as it has been presented, it isn't entirely clear to me what solution is wanted. You don't know the area of the room so you can't say how much tile is needed and therefore can't possibly say how much it will cost.
Q:I'm looking for the buckeye candy recipe from he Better Homes Gardens Christmas Cookie publication from 1998. They had a 50-State salute that year, and the buckeye was the recipe for Ohio. If anyone has this, please please post it for me.
Try this: Makes: about 72 buckeyes Prep: 45 minutes Chill: 4 hours 30 minutes Ingredients 3/4 cup butter (no substitutes) 3-1/4 to 3-3/4 cups sifted powdered sugar 1 cup peanut butter 1 tablespoon milk 1/2 teaspoon vanilla 16 ounces semisweet chocolate 1 tablespoon shortening Directions 1. Melt butter in a small saucepan over low heat. Or, microwave in a microwave-safe bowl on 100-percent power (high) for 1 to 2 minutes. 2. Combine melted butter and 2 cups of the powdered sugar in a medium mixing bowl. Beat until smooth. Add peanut butter, beating until combined. Stir in milk and vanilla. Beat in enough of the remaining powdered sugar to make a firm, crumbly-looking mixture. 3. Roll mixture into 1-inch balls. Arrange on a tray; chill for 30 minutes. 4. Meanwhile, melt chocolate and shortening in a heavy saucepan over low heat. Cool slightly. Using a fork, dip three-fourths of each ball into chocolate mixture so the ball resembles a buckeye. (If the chocolate mixture hardens, remelt over low heat.) 5. Place balls, undipped portion up, on a tray lined with waxed paper. Chill until firm. Store in refrigerator. Makes about 72 buckeyes. Q:I am new at gardening, this is only my second year. Last year a flood destroyed the whole yard in mid july, in the begining of this season I was fighting with the groundhogs and bunnies and now the bugs! They are eating all of my chinese cabbage and lettuce. What can I do? I don't want to use chemicals on my food but does anything else actually work? I have a good garden book that has some homemade recipes but these didn't seem to have much effect. Any sugestions would be very appreciated! Thanks
Crystal, welcome to gardening. You didn't say what kind of bugs are eating your plants, so try this. Mix up a soapy (not detergent, bar soap chips) with a teaspoon of black molasses in a sprayer filled with water. Shake it up and spray it on the bugs. It will kill them- really. They have no resistance. You should also was your plants regularly with a powerful spray from the lawn hose. It knocks them off the plants and keeps the plants clean.
Q:I want to build a botanical garden in the town I live in, it will be a private land that is not for profit company and open to public for a few dollars. What are resources I can use to get me started on the research for this project, remember its large scale so small garden info isn't that useful.I have found lots of gardening design/plant/etc info but its all for small scale, I am going to be building a several acre garden. What considerations should I think about? How much space? What plants?Legal issues? What about designs, information on design of large scale parks?
