- Q: What are the advantages of using solar panels?
- There are several advantages of using solar panels. Firstly, solar panels produce clean and renewable energy, which helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change. Secondly, solar energy is abundant and free, reducing the dependence on fossil fuels and providing a sustainable source of power. Additionally, solar panels can save homeowners and businesses money on their electricity bills by generating their own energy. Finally, solar panels require minimal maintenance and have a long lifespan, making them a cost-effective and reliable energy solution.
- Q: I have seen DIY software which explains everything for novices. Specifically, how to build your own solar panels and tie them into your home electrical system for about $00 in parts.Has anyone tried doing this? Was it easy?
- Solar power generation is still in its infancy. Solar panels are incredibly expensive (average of approx $25,000 to equip a house with roof top panels) and are incredibly inefficient. However, the economics and efficiency of solar electricity may evolve into a system of economic, efficient collection systems in time depending on the level of funding available in the future for the necessary research and development. We can only hope.
- Q: Can solar panels be used for powering remote monitoring systems?
- Yes, solar panels can be effectively used for powering remote monitoring systems. Due to their ability to generate electricity from sunlight, solar panels provide a reliable and sustainable power source for remote locations where access to grid electricity may be limited or non-existent. By harnessing solar energy, these panels can provide continuous power to remote monitoring systems, enabling them to function and transmit data without the need for traditional electricity sources.
- Q: I want to get solar panels but not spend 20,000!! I found out that you can get a panel to run only your AC unit, I also found something that will run my pool pump! Anyone own either of these? How did you do? Where did you go? How much was it, and was it hard to install?
- I recenty had a system installed for my home, you can get a system that will dramatically reduce your over all electric bill for $20K. My system which is currently running my meter backwards from about 8:30 am till about 6pm cost me around $8K, I did get a $0K rebate and I'll get a $2K federal tax credit. I just had the system installed this week, so I won't know how much it will take away from my yearly consumption for a while. I personally think an overall system is a beter financial option. If you get one that just runs your a/c then you lose the benifit of the energy it is producing when the a/c isn't running. It makes sense to have a system to run an item that is located away from a source of electricity, but then you would need to invest in a storage system. The best advice, is to have a contractor come out and give you a quote. You can get a system that will produce part of your electricity all year and you can always add to it at a later time to eleminate your electric bill.
- Q: Someone Said It costed them 50,000 To Install Solar Panel In their House and 35,000 For Installation. Is that true?

- Q: Can solar panels be installed on a greenhouse?
- Yes, solar panels can be installed on a greenhouse. In fact, it is a common practice to install solar panels on greenhouses to harness solar energy for both power generation and to provide supplemental lighting and heating for the plants inside.
- Q: I want to also know if the 0 watt rating on the solar panel is 0 watts per day or is it constantly adding 0 watts? Is there a time which the 0 watts is being added like 0 watts per second or 0 watts per minute and so on?
- What is the open circuit voltage and voltage under load with the panel in full sun? Assuming it is typical of many 0W panels, the open circuit voltage is 2V and the voltage under load is about 7V. 0W/7V is 588mA. A typical car battery is 40 Amp Hours. Amp Hours, or Ah, is the capacity of the battery. How much current a battery can delivery starting a car is called cold cranking amps. A deep cycle marine battery will typically be more than 40Ah. A 40Ah car battery at 50% charge will more than likely start your car in fair weather. Cold weather is another story. So, to get a completely dead car battery to 50% - 20Ah - would be maybe two days of full sunlight - with only a 50% charge, or about 2.2 Volts. Not a great battery charger - however - It makes a great supplement, and can offset the use of DC powered equipment in the vehicle while the engine is off. Things like low-wattage lights, cell phone chargers, tablets, and the like will drain the battery down that much slower. I have a number of powered but low current items on in my truck all the time. A panel helps offset some of that drain if I don't drive for a few days.
- Q: Was looking at 0w solar panel kit. Does this mean, all I can use is something like a 0W CFL light bulb and nothing else?
- Graham is on the right track. However, you need to factor in a 80% DC to AC conversion loss. But yes a 0W CFL is about the size of it... Harbor Freight sells a system consisting of panels, battery, inverter, and TWO CFL's for $250. (You can power 2 CFL's off the grid for a very long time for $250)
- Q: Can solar panels be used in areas with high levels of electromagnetic interference?
- Yes, solar panels can be used in areas with high levels of electromagnetic interference. However, it is important to ensure proper grounding and shielding techniques are implemented to minimize the impact of electromagnetic interference on the performance and efficiency of the solar panels.
- Q: Are the solar panels on the roof just a gimik to get all the tree huggers to buy it, or are they actually a good, efficent design?
- The solar panels run the fan to remove hot air from the car. They do about the same amount of cooling that cracking the windows and using a heatshield over the windshield--that is they keep the interior of the car about the same as the exterior without draining the 2V battery. One problem I have with the solar panels is that they come with a moonroof. The other problem I have with them is that to get them you have to give up the additional safety features because Toyota won't put both the high tech safety features and the solar panels on the same car. So is it a good design? Well, nothing with a sun/moonroof is a good design IMHO, but that's the power of advertising for you. In that it runs a fan without draining the 2V battery, yes that part's good. Having to give up the high tech safety features to get it makes it a non-starter for me (and I live where it gets plenty hot so I could really use the fan).
