- Q:Hi I was with a friend and her family and they kept referring to some birds at a lake as cranes. I know for sure that some birds there were Great Blue Herons. When I here crane I think of a bird from Asia or something. Anyway these birds were white and I thought maybe they were egrets or something, and this is in Ohio. - I am not aware of any steam cranes, they are all diesel as far as I know. the two types of hooks are for different types of pulling, one is generally for straigh lifting and the other for pulling across the ground or up an embankment where the pulling force is at somewhat of an angle to the equipment. .

- You can figure out your angle with the Pythagorean method. Also, you should NEVER operate a crane with any indicator device not functioning. This in violation of OSHA law and many state and local laws. If there is any damage or injury you will be held negligent..
