- Depending on what you want, there are some good options. For basic computing, an older Windows PC with Windows 2000, or Windows XP would do it. Or you could get an iBook G3 or G4. For what most people consider Modern Computing you should go with what your budget allows, HP, Dell, and Sony are good brands for PC laptops, and as the one guy said, avoid Acer, and IBM. If you care to spend the money, get a Mac, they work great, have great customer service, long lives, and they can even run Windows XP, Vista, MS Office, and many other things. The debate about which OS to pick is pointless though, they are both great.

- Yes you can use a laptop on your television assuming that both your laptop and television has a VGA slot. You can't use the laptop on the television with the lid down because this will put it into sleep mode (or whatever you selected to happen when you close the lid) and so the lid will need to be up unfortunately.
