I'd have to see what you were talking about as far as comparing a $600 gaming laptop and a $600 normal laptop. Here is what you should expect from a Gaming laptop. A processor faster than 2.4ghz, and a higher end video chipset. Now, a Gaming laptop can do everything a normal laptop can do. SO anything you can do with a normal laptop, you can do with a gaming laptop. The reverse is not true. So again, I would have to see the specs on that $600 gaming laptop you are talking about because it sounds like you are comparing a $600 used gaming laptop made a few years ago, to a brand new $600 normal laptop and a $600 used gaming laptop won't play the newest games out there, and a $600 used gaming laptop is not much different from a brand new $600 normal laptop. end of line

Depending on what you want, there are some good options. For basic computing, an older Windows PC with Windows 2000, or Windows XP would do it. Or you could get an iBook G3 or G4. For what most people consider Modern Computing you should go with what your budget allows, HP, Dell, and Sony are good brands for PC laptops, and as the one guy said, avoid Acer, and IBM. If you care to spend the money, get a Mac, they work great, have great customer service, long lives, and they can even run Windows XP, Vista, MS Office, and many other things. The debate about which OS to pick is pointless though, they are both great.

15.4 is the size of the laptop from one corner to the diagonal corner to that; so a 15.4 laptop will probably be 14 by 10 or something along those lines so if you get a laptop that is 15.4 then you can get a case that is 15.4

Not possible for that laptop and a majority of all laptops to upgrade the internal graphic card. Why? Most laptops (like yours) uses a GPU, not a graphic cards for graphics. GPU are integrated to the motherboard and can not be removed. The select few that have a graphic card are often proprietary, it may be hard or impossible to even find a compatible card. Also the motherboard for laptops are often model specfic, which would have the same or similar GPU on your laptop. It would also take literally all day to remove it. Now if the laptop has an expresscard slot, you can use an expressbox to use for an EXTERNAL desktop graphic card for your laptop.

Q:I have a gateway laptop. Recently the charger seemed to not have a very good connection to the laptop. Then when I unplugged it I saw that is had some green fluid on it, I wiped it off and soon forgot about it. Then later when I re-plugged in my laptop it said that the battery wasn't being charged correctly and to replace the battery. later smoke started coming from the connection between my laptop and the charger. I immediately unplugged everything and took out the battery. My laptop and battery looked fine but I saw that my charger melted a little exposing the wires. Before spending money on a new gateway charger, try following simple fixes to see if the problem goes away.
