- Q: Can a PoE powered cause a surge if I connect it to a Gigabit ethernet port?PoE Switch --gt; UTP cable --gt; Non-poe Gigabit Ethernet Switch
- No, the PoE switch will initiate the connection with a low voltage signal to determine if the device at the other supports PoE or not. If not, it doesn't apply a current.
- Q: I live in the UK and I am going on holiday to Taiwan/Japan where the voltage is 110/100v as opposed to 220 here (i think).I was wondering if I could use a power extension cable (with multiple sockets) so that i would only need one adaptor to connect the extension to the mains and then I could just simply plug my 3 pin plugs into the cable saving me money and sockets. As it would be a lower voltage, I assume that there shouldn't be any problems with power however, if there are any electricians or anyone who has done this before I would really appreciate some guidance just to ensure that this is safe. Thanks is advance.
- An extension cord is just more wire. Wire doesn't care about voltage. (The insulation does care about voltage, but they're all rated to handle up to at least 300v). Same with terminal strips (multiple sockets). In either case, you're problem is not handling the voltage, but handling the different plug styles from one country to the next. In the UK, the prong are round, where in Japan, the prongs are bladed.
- Q: Recently moved from the UK, so I need power cables for the following:- External Hard Drive- Skype Phone Base Station- etcThese appliances come with a power cord from the socket to a small circular head that plugs into the said appliance.I've looked in Walmart, and all they have is a mutihead adaptor for 18 bucks, when I really need just a power cord with the wall socket and the right size circular head.Any advice is appreciated!

- Q: I'm running a 3ghz ecs p965t with 2gb of RAM, and I'm trying to install an XFX 8800GT. First time I tried it, it didn't power on at all, and I figured it might be the power supply (mine was a 350w) so I tried a friend's 450w, still no power. So I went out and bought a 500w, and STILL no power. Wierder still, if I leave the card plugged into the board but don't plug in the power connector, it makes a long high-pitched wailing sound but the system does power itself.I'm assuming it must be a problem with the card itself, but does anyone have any other possibilities I could try before negotiating a replacement in PC World?
- I think its the card. This is not uncommon. Card sounds DOA. Exchange it. 500 watts is good, the others are not, but lack of power would not kill a card, I don't believe. good luck. 8800GT is a sweet card, thats what I have, I play at 1920x1080 and get between 40 and 60 FPS in far cry 2 and great frames in oblivion maxed out. I get around 30 in crysis on high.
- Q: When I put the laptop into hibernation, the power pack still makes a considerable amount of noise. Since the memory was saved to the hard drive, is it okay to disconnect the power cable? Please note that the battery on the computer is pretty much dead and lasts for about 2 mins tops on normal mode
- If it's true hybernation (and not hybrid sleep [?] or suspend) then everything is on the hard drive and the machine is completely powered down. You can safely remove the power cable - and even the laptop battery (if you wanted to, just to prove it works) - and a hour/day/week later pop those back in and when you power back up you should be good to go. EDIT: If it's true hibernation you can leave it like that for years. (Just do a simple test without power cord or battery as mentioned here and see if it works before trusting it.)
- Q: I know Ethernet cable is much more susceptible to electromagnetic interference than fiber optic cable, but is fiber completely immune to it? I want to wrap a fiber optic cable around a 230 volt power line going through my attic for about 150 feet. Will this cause problems?
- Nope my Cable went out sometime between 10:00 and midday in the present day. they're sending a Tech out the following day. I already know what surpassed off. The citizens around the corridor from me moved out and had their cable became off, The goobers became off my cable as a replace as our addresses are one variety off from one yet another. My tackle leads to eight my friends leads to 9.
- Q: high effency double shielded transmission power cable?
- What is your question? Does such a cable exist? Probably but you'll have to be more specific. High efficiency = low loss or low resistance per foot? Double shielded = is the shielding (in dB) critical? Transmission = What frequency, 60 Hz, 1 MHz, 100 MHz, ? Power = Watts, KW, MW Is weight or cost important?
- Q: I have a white Xbox 360 system (elite maybe). I have it hooked up to a 26HD TV in my room. When I have friends over to play, we like to move the xbox downstairs to a 52TV so we can play split screen mode without squinting! The unplugging of cables creates such a hassle, and I was wondering if it was possible to use another AC power cable and more video cables downstairs so I only have to move the console itself. Can someone tell me if this will work if I purchase another set of cables on OKorder and or give any specifications about what need/should buy? Please help, and thanks!
- you certainly can do that. the only problem is that the power brick is like 100 bucks but if you think it's worth it then you certainly have that option. if your tv is an hd tv, then buy an hdmi cable. i got one from the apple store for 20 bucks and it works great. just the power is so expensive.. OKorder is different. if you went to the store and bought a new one, or if you ordered one directly from microsoft, it would be 100 dollars. i'm sure people sell used ones on OKorder or craigslist for much less but it's your call if you want to risk them ripping you off or something. hdmi is the high definition equivalent of component or av cables. it feeds the video and audio to the tv. it doesn't provide power. if you do get hdmi, don't forget to go to your xbox video settings and change the output from standard 1080p
- Q: If you look at a power line it is hanging down in the middle why is that
- gravity. Power lines are not light. If you try to pull them tighter, to reduce the amount of sag you can break the line itself, or put tremendous strain on the support towers.
- Q: i just got a new motherboard but after reading throuhg the manual i coudnt get any instructions on which cable goes which way. pls i need some one to help me. all other connections are okay i suppose but afraid to just connect the power, and the reset button cable any how.
- Are okorder ... If so, look on the motherboard, it should be written near the jumpers where the cables connect. They look like little pins sticking up out of the motherboard, all in a group. Just play with it until it works, but DON'T unplug anything while the computer is powered on and running. If it doesnt work, shut it down completely before switching any of the cables.
