Q:I have recently put up some plasterboard (or gyproc) in my kitchen and need to seal it (as it's behind a sink and a cooker). I have bought a tub of PVA, but there are no instructions on the back for what ratio to mix it to apply to the gyproc to waterproof it... Any ideas?

You can buy waterproof boards for putting in showers. But for usual plasterboards.. are you plastering on the boards of tiling straight on top? If you are tiling, you probably dont need to seal it. Though a weak mix of pva may be good to put on. 50/50 or a bit less. If its undiluted it will set too thick and shiny for tile adhesive or plaster to stick to.

Don't believe the myth that I just need to patch a small hole. Replacing larger areas is much easier than patching small areas. Cut the drywall in a rectangle surrounding the hole until you expose the studs on either side. Measure the open space carefully and cut a similar sized patch from a sheet of drywall of a similar thickness. Screw the patch piece to the studs and then apply drywall compound the the face of the edges. Apply paper tape over the mud that you've applied and then apply more compound. When the mud dries, sand it until it is smooth to the wall and repaint that section.

Q:I recently installed a Peerless Wall Mount to support my 46 LCD. Every installation guide I find tells me I absolutely need a stud when installing on a plaster board.
