Q: What insulation should i use to fill between the joists of my house before i replace the plasterboard ceiling?
The easiest and least expensive for a DIY is fiberglass. Measure the depth of the joist cavity and buy insulation of the same thickness. If you use an insulation with a vapor barrier, be sure to place the vapor barrier toward the living space.
Q: I have some plasterers doing some work in my kithchen at the moment, and i've just had the kitchen damp proffed with injection and a roll of bitchumen membrane up to approx a metre high all round the kitchen. The plasterers have told me that the dry wall won't stick to the bitchumen membrane, so have suggested putting up a stud frame all round the kitched so that they can screw the plasterboards to the new stud frame!! Is this really necessary?? Does plasterboarding with dry wall adhesive really not stick to sheet roll's of bitchumen?? Also, they have also told me that you can't drywall with foil back boards as the adhesive won't stick to the foil....is this also true???Many thanks
plasterboard or sheetrock is not glued to any backing. It must be nailed or screwed onto a frame. never heard of the adhesive way.
Q: i have some thin wavy mirrors attached to a painted plasterboard wall using 'no nails ultra' glue. any ideas on how to remove the mirrors without damaging the wall?
if you can get a new hacksaw blade behind where they ve been dabbed you could try sawing through slowly, otherwise you just get some polyfilla ater and repair the wall
Q: Why can gypsum board can be flame retardant
Gypsum board is currently the most widely used a new type of ceiling decoration materials. Has a good decorative effect and good sound-absorbing performance, the price is lower than other roof decoration materials.
Q: how much does a a sheet of soundbloc plasterboard cost?
?8.11 including VAT for a 2400 x 1200: 12.5cm At Joseph Parr in Middlesbrough
Q: I have some old style plasterboard in my house and I was wondering if there is any good way to smooth it out so it matches my new drywall? I'd rather not have to take it down but if it comes to that i'll do it. I am going to be texturing the new drywall. Could I just spray the texture on the old stuff and maybe hide it enough to get by?thxJoe
You may beed to sand the rough area before texturing, hammer in nail heads and patch.
Q: Can you tape and plaster joints only on plasterboard? IE not skim whole room?
Yes, you can. You will find that the plaster board will soak up more paint that regular drywall. This is because there is a special paper on the plaster board that allows the plaster to stick to it. Plaster board is sometimes called blue board, and you'll know why when you look at the two side by side. When you get ready to paint, you might want to consider two coats of primer.
Q: we want to put up hooks to hold the rod for curtains, but aren't sure what screws to use to keep the hooks in place. also, i'm thinking it might be plaster, but what are the options to use to help the screws stay firmly in the wall? the last time i tried this on a wall, the screws ended up coming out of the wall later and it was easy to just pull them out. any helpful advice is greatly appreciated.
Plasterboard and drywall both mean the same thing, so does sheetrock for that matter. Drywall is the term most people use. I wouldn't be surprised if you aren't using plaster to mean the same thing, although it's not, but plaster hasn't been used in the U.S. much for 50 years or more now (maybe since the '30's? I've only seen it in old houses, and one custom builder that was still using it a decade ago.) There are numerous types of screw anchors sold for use in drywall. I think the best is a dry wall anchor that you first drill a hole for, insert, and then tighten a screw into. You can put them anywhere, and they hold pretty good. Other people use toggle bolts, or plastic screw anchors, there's probably other choices too. Hardware stores always have these items in stock.

Q: I live in a flat and have constant leaks coming through my ceiling, there is a flat above me. The problems had previously came from the guttering on the roof not being cleaned properly and when it rained the water would leak in to the flat throught the ceiling and electrical sockets. The ceiling is plasterboard and my landlord doesnt seem to be fixing the problem properly, when they do come in they let it dry put a skim of poly filer over bits thast are coming off and repaint over it... even though you can still see the lines of the plasterboard coming through. Does anyone know how my landlord should be doing this properly so i can get this sorted as it hasnt been raining and i know have leaks again this morning with bubbles in the ceiling.
Its not a big issue, if your landlord is not willing to fix this problem, you can do it by yourself, there are lots of online resources from where you can choose a good product and apply it on your roof, i am also going to recommend a link and hoping it can be helpful for you, check out the link in the source box.
