6. What's the characteristics about porcelain tiles and glazed tiles? Which one
more slippery, more aesthetically pleasing and easy to clean?
Glazed tiles are colorful, the effect is rather diverse, stain-slip, abrasion resistance but worse than the porcelain tiles. Long-term use may wear a large surface; porcelain tiles have the higher degree, long hard wear surface. Good performance and stable cleanup (before playing the best times to use the wax to improve stain resistance). The porcelain tiles are weaker performance in non-slip than glazed tiles. We should take attention on its anti-slip properties, face down in a tiled brick water testing.
7. How to choose bathroom tiles? Porcelain tiles or glazed tiles?
Currently used in the bathroom tiles with glazed tiles (mainly from price considerations, some high-end can choose tiles, notice to choose tiles), divided into Shinny and Matt two kinds. Light color makes people feel shinny, but the bathroom more appropriate to create a warm feeling, so the best choose is uses matte, the shinny feels more soft and not dazzling.
- Q:I accidentally tiled over an outlet cover. What can I do to fix this issue with out having to remove all the tile?
- Probably not much you can do except remove that piece of tile if you which one it is.... If you can find the feed wire to the rec. disconnect the elect. from that rec. and put in a new rec. somewhere else....There is a device that will tell you where the rec. is if it will read thru the tile... If you know an eletrician...Talk to him about your problem..... Probably would not be a good idea to just leave it there ...Could cause a problem over time...
- Q:I‘m getting some of my house tiled and would like to know if I am getting ripped off or not. It is going to be approximalte 600 sq ft with 2 upstairs bathrooms. The installer gave me a quote of $2400 to lay the tile (straight or diagonal, whichever I want). I will have to buy the tile and other materials on my own. The tile is going to be 18x18. The price includes ripping out the carpet and ripping out the tile that is already in the kitchen that will be replaced as well as the tile in the upstairs baths. Also included will be haul away of all the trash. Is this a good price or not?
- Normal price to just install tile and porcelain is no different to install, will range from 4/6 $ a s/f.. So he/ she is doing all the rip out / disposal and prep work for basically free.. If they do check out w/ their references and have all insurances.Liability and workmans comp, then you may well go for it.. Times are slow now and they may very well be cutting you a deal to get a good job. - Q:So I have the substrate ready, the room is a L shape 253 x 148. Where do I start the tile, I am assuming the center of each on a chalk line. Is this correct?Bond
- As others have said, start in the center and make your cuts all on the edges, but be careful you don't end up with a sliver of tile. Measure and pencil in the center of each leg of the L, so your chalk lines make an X at the center of the corner where the two parts meet. Then measure away from that line to see how each tile will get cut at the walls. If there is a pattern with strong lines on it, you have to be careful to lay out the cuts so that if there is any taper, due to the floor being not perfectly square...that you don't have cuts going across the lines and accentuating the error. So think ahead! If you can't help but have a funny edge, see if you can put it on a side that is covered with furniture, or isn't that visible in normal use. Do the same with the tile in the other rooms...do some measuring, and see what layout gives you the best size tiles. You don't want to have small tiles at the transitions from one room to another. Adjust your X starting point so your cut tiles are not too small. You should lay it out so you can use the biggest tiles you can (in other words, don't cut little strips to fill in a gap...shift the whole centerline over to make those slivers at least a 1/3 tile. Once you have your X starting point, put down 4 tiles around that X, and work out from the center, but don't run all the tile down the lines, then do another row, etc.. out in an expanding pattern. If you do a long run all at once, and are just off by a tiny bit at the start...the error with keep growing. Work out from your starting point, filling in all the floor as you go, leaving the edges to trim last. I strongly recommend the Time-Life books on this.
- Q:I don‘t have a ton of money for my kitchen but I feel I can do some minor things. I) Orange countertop MUST go. I am seriously considering due the lack of counter space in the kitchen, what you see is my only countertop space, is move the fridge to the wall on the right, which you cant realy see in this pic, but there is an inside interior wall im going to set the fridge against, and then extend the countertop the wall, and put a base cabinet below it, and one above it to be the same size vertically as the one next to the fridge. A neutral beige-ish countertop, and then probably a range top thing for above the stove. Replace old sink faucet too.My question about making a tile backsplash for above the sink, would ie be more logical to measure it out, and put the tiles on a piece of plywood and screw that 2 the wall instead of grouting the wall and tiles affixed to the wall directly.

- I have no idea. I know when I had my house tiled, I bought about ten spares just in case. I haven't had to use them yet though. Do you know where you bought the tile? Maybe you could try looking at one of those special order books that they carry in the stores.
- Q:Hello! I currently have a 3 season sunroom addition on the back of my home that has been stripped down to the wood. I recently saw a 4 season sunroom that had tile down and needless to say, I fell in love with it! I am thinking about putting tile down in there but am worried about the weather...I live in Minnesota where it gets very cold...and that room is not heated in the winter. Would I have problems with the tile cracking? Or does anyone know of an alternative way to get a tile-looking floor without having to worry the temperature changes??
- Tile can be laid outside, so temperature is not the issue. The type of tile you use will determine if it stays down or not. I would look into a porcelain tile which is double fired and extremely hard, or a frost-proof tile which is used around swimming pools.

- I tile every day of my life and the direct answer is YES, primarily given the size of the tile. Tile has grades of durability, usually 1 through 5. 5 being the better for flooring. Porcelain is clay, just a finer grade, and usually porcelain tile has it's color/pattern throughout the piece, not just glazed onto the surface. It's fired at a higher kiln temp, so has an added measure of strength from that. More important than the species, is the substrate, which should be concrete backer board, and the mortars should be exterior or poly blends for the conditions a shower endures. Grout lines can be 1/4, but I prefer 1/8 for walls, and again a poly blend grout. Sanded grout. Sealing after the fact,,,in my opinion,,,is a wasted step and expense, if you've used the proper substances to begin with, and would need regular RE-sealing. Vertical installs are best done with small tiles, 2/4/6 inches, often mesh backed, and the first/lowest course set first, allowed to dry/set, then proceed up. You have Gravity and Shear weight to consider. I prefer floor to ceiling install. The shower pan/basin is another consideration that involves tile size, given that the drain should often be slightly concave to allow run off, even a pre formed basin often is modestly graded toward the drain. Etc. Etc. Etc. without rambling on about my opinions of install methods. Steven Wolf Just my two sense

- First, wall tiles are thinner than floor tiles. Because of gravity, wall tiles are made slightly thinner to make adherence to your wall easier. Wall tiles are also often more porous on their adhesive side than ceramic floor tiles, again for ease of installation. Ceramic floor tile on the other hand is made thicker for application to flat surfaces. It is also set with a different mixture of thinset mortar. You can find most styles of floor tile made for walls as well so that you can match your border to your floors. Consult with a ceramic floor tile specialist to see if they can find the style you are looking for in both ceramic floor tile and ceramic wall tile.

- If you are talking about laying a formica sheet down on top of existing tile, it is possible to lay the formica sheet directly to the tile if they are very secure but I think that the grout lines might cause gaps to exist between the tile and the formica sheet. This wouldn't be good. If you are talking about a new formica (or other material) countertop, then it would be easier to remove the old countertop (backing board and tile) and then put down the new countertop. This will allow everything to be squared up, fastened to other countertop sections as well as the cabinets.
