Q:Can I tear out all of the blow in insulation in the roof?
mold needs moisture to start/grow. find out why there's moisture and fix that first. Just creating more air flow won't stop the mold from growing and it won't necessarily make the air quality better if mold is growing in the walls. since you said it was roof insulation, (I'm gonna assume you meant attic) check the roof for leaks. I wouldn't think you'd have to get rid of all the insulation but I'd definately get rid of anything moldy. Blown in isulation is fairly cheap to replace. Lowe's sells a mold test kit, not sure how it works but I saw them yesterday when I was in there. Might be worth looking into getting one.
Q:What are the roof insulation materials?
Polystyrene foam is divided into expansive EPS and continuous extrusion type XPS two: polystyrene board full name polystyrene foam board, also known as foam board or EPS board
Q:Why is the most insulation needed in ceilings or roofs?
well insulation in general is to keep the inside temperature different than the outside. since hot air usually rises, i think it is to keep warm air form escaping in winter. also you don't usually have a heater in the attic, or air conditioning so insulation will keep the air in the attic from having an effect on the air within the house. that is my idea as to why
Q:What is the aim of insulation in walls and in roofs?
The basic idea on insulation is to slow the movement of heat.
Q:How best to insulate interior of attic roof?
The reason you do not put insulation directly on the underside of your roof is all about moisture and mold. You need an air gap between the roof and the insulation and allow it to breath. This prevents moisture from condensation that can cause big problems. You could install a radiant barrier that reflects the heat. Do a google search to learn more about it. You could install and attic fan to suck the hot air out in the summer. Most important is to make sure the insulation on the attic floor is the proper thickness.
Q:Can I ask my landlord to put better insulation in the roof?
Yes, you can ask, but don't expect him to seriously entertain the idea of actually doing it. You rented the house at it was. The landlord has no obligation to spend money on improving it so you can save money. That amount of heat loss in that time is insignificant. If I turned my heat off for four hours in the just-around-freezing weather we are having right now, I would expect my house to cool off a lot more than 4 degrees. My furnace is coming on for a few minutes at least every 15 minutes to keep the place at just over 60F. I have the lowest heating bill of anyone I know.
Q:Is it necessary to have attic roof insulation?
Its normal to have a insulated attic.. I once noticed a neighbor--that used a large exhaust fan..and his roof was bowed.. He also would use alot of firewood in his house.. I think that moisture somehow--damaged the attic area--/
Q:Is it good to get cavity wall / roof insulation in the summer?
Insulation helps both in heating in the winter and with cooling in the summer!
Q:No ventilation between insulation and roof between knee wall & floor of attic. How can I provide ventilation?
That is an option. And there aren't many options. Not much is going to slide easily behind the insulation. I'm thinking --------------------. You are undoubtedly going to snag on roof nails coming through the decking. I don't know if they would hold up but the cardboard tubes wrapping paper comes on might work if you tape 2 together. and flatten and tape the end you will be pushing in first. cut slots with utility knife. I think your idea would work if you can afford the pipe. That's a tough one. When we convert attics we line those cavities with a styrofoam insulation chute end to end until we reach open ventilation-you probably know that by now. Give it a try.
Q:Can I add reflective attic insulation to the inside of my roof, between the rafters?
do not insulate your roof,it will cause the roof to get VERY hot, this will damage the roofing, shorten its life,,the temp in your attic should be within 3-4 deg of outside temp,,,insulate the floor Only and have plenty of ventilation
