- Be careful what you do under your metal roof. We installed foam spray on insulation under ours and now the inspector is saying it's not "to code" and we lost the buyer for our house because of it. Call a metal roof company - they may give you some free advice.

- If you sit on them, they will be uncomfortable on a hot sunny day. If you mean in the house, the "under sheeting" or radiant barrier should deflect much of the heat from the roof, and keep your house easy to cool.

- You would be foolish not to add the rigid foam under the new rubber roof. It gives you a new surface for an expensive roof. Definitely follow the contractors advice on this one.

- Insulation does not have a "hot" side and a "cold" side. It just slows down the transfer of heat from the inside of the house to the outside of the house and viceversa.

- I'm assuming that it's open at the ceiling.You could put in a drop ceiling to hold the heat further down.If it's damp you may want to make sure the area between the ceiling an roof are well ventilated.You could then place insulation on top of your drop ceiling so there's a barrier to hold down heat.
- Q:We have plenty down at the center, so many, you can carpet a garden. So, since I'll have to tear down the roof and improve the insulation in a few months, I was thinking of adding one extra layer... of emergency blankets. Since they can reflect the sun's heat up, and the heat under it down, will they do that for a whole house? Will the plastic film cause water condensation? - The best insulation that you will find is R15 fiberglass that is installed inside the attic between the roofing rafters. It's twice as thick as R12 which goes behind wall paneling. If you're talking about roofing shingles, they don't really act as insulation but architect shingles last the longest.
