- Not true. They do have modified suspensions for heavy duty use - like cutting through medians - but nothing special for speed bumps. They do a nice job of training officers on high speed driving which may help them navigate irregular surfaces.

- Interesting. Well, obviously if it burned after you changed the belt, the belt is not working correctly. Also, the rollers may be worn, which you would only notice at higher speeds. It is also true that the current changes little from no load to full load, particularly if it is a variable speed drive, which has large amounts of harmonics. The current alone will not tell you what the mechanical load is. If you want to install a larger motor, have the kw load measured with the existing motor, at full speed. That will tell you what the real mechanical load on the motor is. You will need a wattmeter for that purpose, which is not a common instrument and may have to buy or rent one. - Motors should not burn out, if you have the right protection installed. The overload heaters in your contactor are oversized. They should trip the motor before it burns. Someone is not doing his homework and, yes, you are being told half truths. Also, if you have a variable speed drive, it should limit the motor current automatically, preventing it from burning. An ideal motor for this application, would be a wound rotor induction motor. They are extremely sturdy. You should also have an ammeter recorder, which will track load and tell you when it is rising and time for preventive maintenance. And, definetely, an amp switch, which will cutout the motor when it exceeds a certain load. . . .
