That's a pretty awesome idea. When I was growing up in Wisconsin in the 1970's, folks put metal chains on their tires when it snowed. It was actually very effective but it was banned. I'm not sure why it was banned. I would imagine that chains did damage to the concrete. But your idea would probably work and could even be legalized just as long as it doesn't do damage to the road.

You need a crimping tool to crimp the little sliding piece. Call a local plumber and ask to borrow one. It takes much more force than you can do with ordinaly household tools.
