Production description

solar panels that can always be pointed at the Sun even as the rest of the body of the spacecraft moves around, much as a tank turret can be aimed independently of where the tank is going.

Each module is rated by its DC output power under standard test conditions, and typically ranges from 100 to 365 watts. The efficiency of a module determines the area of a module given the same rated output – an 8% efficient 230 watt module will have twice the area of a 16% efficient 230 watt module.

Depending on construction, photovoltaic modules can produce electricity from a range of frequencies of light, but usually cannot cover the entire solar range (specifically, ultraviolet, infrared and low or diffused light). Hence, much of the incident sunlight energy is wasted by solar modules, and they can give far higher efficiencies if illuminated with monochromatic light. Therefore, another design concept is to split the light into different wavelength ranges and direct the beams onto different cells tuned to those ranges.[citation needed] This has been projected to be capable of raising efficiency by 50%. Scientists from Spectrolab, a subsidiary of Boeing, have reported development of multijunction solar cells with an efficiency of more than 40%, a new world record for solar photovoltaic cells.

Q:Where can I find good instructions to build a cheap solar panel on my own?
Building solar panels is not really a do it yourself kind of job. They are made in high tech factorys with specialized equipment and experianced engineers. It would probably be cheaper and easier to just buy some panels rather than try to make your own.
Q:Has anyone had any experience building their own solar panels for home use? I have seen on the news lately that people are utilizing solar panels to power their hot water heaters to save on their power bill.
Hey David, yes, we have built plenty of them. If you are into the do it yourself world, the easiest type to build is the Batch Preheater type. What you need is an old water heater, something small, like an under counter model, 0 to 30 gallons in size. It has to be one that hasn't rusted out yet and started leaking. We stopped at a local plumbing place in town, they are always throwing out units they have removed from homes because the new owner wants a larger unit, or gas versus electric, and so on. He sold us a pretty recent model for $0. Take the water heater home, and strip off the outer metal housing and all the insualtion so all you have left is the tank. Clean it up, and paint it with black paint. Now build a wood enclosure, something the size of a dog house that your tank will fit inside of. Use a glass panel for one side of the roof. What works best is an old window pane someone is throwing out that is about the right size, then build your dog house to fit it. When it's done, put some styrofoam insulation panels around the back and side walls to keep the heat in when the sun shines on it, then mount your tank inside. Put your dog house someplace in the sun, run the cold water that normally feeds into your water heater into the tank (in the cold inlet side), then run a pipe from the outlet of the tank to your regular water heater. We have one just like this installed in the northern midwest, it works great about 7 months of the year. Usually in the summer if it's about 75 degrees outside, the water comes into the house at around 00 degrees, then the regular water heater only needs to add another 25 degrees to the water to finish it off. Since the water starts out at about 56 degrees, the solar preheater ends up doing about 65% of the work. In the winter, we simply drain the tank and lines to and from it, and route the cold water directly to the regular water heater. There are some designs on line, try googling, Batch Water Preheater. Take care, Rudydoo
Q:Can solar panels be installed on asphalt shingles?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on asphalt shingles. However, it is important to ensure that the shingles are in good condition and can support the weight of the panels. Proper installation techniques and mounting systems designed for asphalt shingles should be used to prevent any damage to the roof.
Q:Can solar panels be installed on a golf course or clubhouse?
Yes, solar panels can be installed on a golf course or clubhouse. They can be mounted on rooftops, carports, or even on the ground in open areas of the golf course. Installing solar panels can help generate clean and renewable energy while reducing electricity costs for the facility.
Q:how to use a motor with solar panel
You need a battery, no solar panel is strong enough to move any significant motor
Q:Interested to know if it is possible to install Solar Panels to run my Jacuzzi?Don't want to do the whole house just the jacuzzi anybody have any ideas Thanks
You can do this by isolating the jacuzzi, you will need a solar array adequate for the power draw of the jacuzzi, a charge controller, battery bank, off-grid inverter and switch gear. This is the expensive way to go--especially if you are planning to heat the water with the solar. A better option would be to heat the jacuzzi with solar thermal panels. It is plumbing instead of electrical, but the cost would be much less. If you still want to do PV (electric) solar, think about putting a non-isolated grid-tie solar array on your home. They are much cheaper, and if you think about it, it really does not matter if you use the solar electricity to run a light, a fridge, a TV, or a Jacuzzi, that amount of power is subtracted from your overall house power bill. Just size the array for the power output of the jacuzzi, and let the power meter do the rest. Your overall result will be the same and the system will be half the price, or less.
Q:Do solar panels require a specific orientation or angle for optimal performance?
Yes, solar panels do require a specific orientation and angle for optimal performance. Generally, it is recommended to install solar panels facing south and at an angle equal to the latitude of the installation location. This allows the panels to receive maximum sunlight throughout the day, maximizing their energy production. However, panels can still generate electricity when facing other directions or at different angles, although their efficiency may be slightly reduced.
Q:Can solar panels be used to power a gas station?
Yes, solar panels can be used to power a gas station. Solar energy can be harnessed through the panels and converted into electricity, which can then be used to power various operations and equipment at a gas station. This can help reduce reliance on traditional energy sources and lower the carbon footprint of the gas station.
Q:I have a solar panel 7.5V .25W 50mah, connect 2 in parallel to power a RC boat. The boat use to run on 6cell battery pack - 7.2V 800Mah.The dc motor requirement based on the provided battery pack, i assume would be 7.2V and rated at (7.2V * .8Amp) = 2.96 Watt.Would two of my solar panels run this DC motor ?are my calculations or understanding correct ?do lend a hand dear ''world''
solar cells are not rated in mah, they are rated in ma or amps. I'll assume this one is 50mA. Two in parallel will give you 300mA, so that will charge a 800mA-hr battery in 800/300 = 3 hours. Theoretically, in bright sunlight if the array is exactly at right angles to the sun's rays. The problem is, depending on the type of cells, the battery pack will need 8 volts or so to charge, and your solar cells won't deliver that. If the sun is at an angle, you may get only 3-5 volts. so you have to put them in series, so you will get only 50mA out of them, which will charge the battery in 6 hours of bright sunlight. Would two of my solar panels run this DC motor ? If the motor is .8 amps, you need the battery, the arrays are not near enough. Or are you attempting to replace the battery pack with the solar array? Your english makes that difficult to understand. If so, put them in parallel to get the 300mA, but that would run the .8 amp motor very slowly. If you had 2 of the solar panels, it might run at close to full speed if the sun is bright and shining directly on all the panels. But where did you get the .8 amps for the motor? The 800Mah rating of the battery has ZERO to do with the motor current. So the answer above is based on your number, which I suspect is totally wrong. .
Q:How do solar panels affect the property's sustainable development goals?
Solar panels contribute to a property's sustainable development goals by promoting renewable energy generation. They reduce the property's reliance on fossil fuels, lower greenhouse gas emissions, and help combat climate change. Solar panels also provide a clean and abundant source of electricity, reducing the property's environmental impact and contributing to its long-term sustainability.
