There are ways to change your ESN to that of a Virgin Mobile phone, but they are illegal. Don't do it. Just buy a Virgin Mobile phone, they're not very expensive. Maybe you can post on craigslist that you need a Virgin Mobile phone and someone will trade you phones. Sorry for the bad news!

In the USA you can load a skype application on the iPhone, iTouch, Nokia N800/N810 and others. Skype calls on these units do NOT go over the cell phone network, but rather use a local (free) wifi hotspot. I use the Belkin Wi-Fi Phone for Skype ( F1PP000GN-SK ) from amazon ($129.35), it works fine if you have a local free wifi hotspot (or Boingo). Out of these areas it is dead.
