I am a programmer. And a engineer. Me and my team have been working on a project. Can't really put much detail in the project other than it needs to be powered by something heavy. This project consists of land and air activity so it is a electricity killer. We have tried a very heave battery and charger_ failed. Gasoline isn't an option in this case. We have tested many forms of electricity- but non seem reliant. It's been about 3 months since we have tried. Any ideas? Or should we just give up.

I have put together a 4 cylinder peugeot diesel and an 8 kw alternator.At first it was direct coupled to run at 1500 rpm but didn't have enough grunt when i struck an arc with my mig welder. I then put in a lay shaft the engine runs at 2275rpm alternator at 1500rpm. same problem engine allmost stalls under heavy load. At this speed the engine is producing max torque 70 lb ft the alt should only need 33 lb ft. pls help

i am going to buy a second hand generator which is 108kva diesel enginehow can i test it so i know it starts but also is capable of running around 80-100kvai want to make sure it is strong and still working and not that it just startsplease help thankssam
You need to load test it and operate it to test both the power output of the diesel, and the condition of the generator.See if you can rent the use of a salt box to load test the generator.or see if the seller will allow you to hook it up to your equipment at your place and see if it will carry the load under real world test conditions. Note, a marine electrical shop,or motor rewind facility should have a salt box. Call and ask them

Hi. We're off grid and therefore installing a 3 phase Diesel generator. Each phase is rated at 20 Amps continuous(23 Amps max). we want to run 3 Split type ACs, one on each phase, plus some other small appliances.Our problem is that each AC has a start up current of 20 Amps, which will trip the safety circuit on the generator everytime it comes on.The ACs running current is only 8 Amps, but jumps to 20 Amps for a split second everytime the Compressor comes on.Is there a simple way to control the start up current on the ACs? I read something about putting a coil of wire on the input of the Compressor. I tried that with a water pump just to check if it works. The surge current was still there.Any ideas if I can use a Capacitor? If yes, can you tell me what capacity I should use? If you give me the formula I can figure it myself. We run on 220-240 Volts, 50 HZ.Thanks for your answers.
Is it too late to switch to a 240 volt single phase generator of the same capacity? This would have a 60 amp capability and would handle the surges with no trouble. I don't see how a capacitor will help. If you are stuck with the 3 phase generator, perhaps you can switch the ACs for ones with 3 phase motors. That will spread the surge over the 3 phases. There are also soft-start ACs .
