- Q:hi, we need to put tiles for a room of size 10x16 fts . we will be using 2x2 ft vitrified tiles. I want to know how many tiles are required and how the cost of tile is defined in shop. (price is for 1 piece or 1 sq feet ?)
- You have 160 sq. feet of area. Each tile is 4 square feet. You need 40 tiles. Now the cost will vary greatly as to what you want. At least $1 per square foot and upward.
- Q:Meaning, I was just wondering if you can lay a thin set of mortar then place vinyl tiles on it, and then grout it? This mabye a stupid question and most people would say why not just use real tile if your going to go through all that trouble, but just wondering?.Thanks
- no you can't vinyl tiles and ceramic tiles are too different materials,the cement would corrode the vinyl tile,not a smart idea.

- you can do it- just follow instructions. When I was a kid we garbage picked the carpet stores for left over remnants- any size. When we had enough we took them to the basement and randomly glued them to the floor for a patchwork design. If a kid can glue carpet down- so can you.
- Q:I am remodeling a small bathroom only 39sq ft. I had someone come out and give me an estimate, he brought a sample of a job he did and tried to sell me on that design, which will NOT complement my existing fixtures, since my existing fixtures are fairly new, I decided to reuse those to save me money. Anyways, this sample he brought me used 16in tiles, since my bathroom is so small, I think huge tile will make it seem even smaller and claustrophobic, I was thinking 1in-4in tiles, but this guy insists that large tile will make the small bathroom seem larger, is there any truth to this? Also, what is a good price to pay, I want the tub replaced, the tile around the tub, replace the small window, flip the sink and toilet so that the sink sits where the toilet is at and the toilet where the sink is, maybe re-tile the floor. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks!
- I would say the 4 inch or smaller would look good---he is trying to sell you on the other tile because he has some leftover and will make more $ on it. Go to a Lowes or box store and get some samples(you have to pay for them) lay them on the floor and see what you like best. Tell him you will buy the material and he can install it. Moving the sink and toilet will be work, sounds like a week job with the tile and grout. maybe $2000 with the tile and labor.
- Q:are there any products made for removing grout off of tile because we forgot to clean the grout off of our tile and it dried over night and now its hard and is stuck pretty well. does anyone know of any acids or anything made for this?
- Did a lot of tiling with my father...and id be the one who would have to clean. This is wut u do. Take a 5 gallon bucket or just any bucket. Fill it with warm water. Take a big sponge and wash the tile. you are going to have to do this a lot of times. probably about 5 times. if there are big pieces of grout, u should be able to pick it off with your finger. DONT USE A RAZOR! you will scratch the tile. just warm water n a sponge. change your water frequently and make sure ur sponge is clean!
- Q:I am installing 13x13 porcelain tile on a wall. Should I leave a 1/4‘‘ gap for grout or can I butt them up tight for a smaller grout line?
- You can buy plastic spacers from tile shops in various sizes, In the shop I would place a meter of tiles on the floor and use some spacers to get the look you like. Then you know what space to leave for grout.
- Q:after grouting a new tile floor (about 400 sq ft) and several moppings the finish is still somewhat dull. how do i clean the tile to bring back a nice glossy finish? Thanks
- A old terri cloth towel dusting the tile and doing the tile dry. If you need a bit stronger use a white nylon scrub pad called a doodlebug pad. Most every tile place will have these. If that doesn t work , then go to the grout haze and effervescent remover ( sold as one multi use product) 8/9$ an 8 oz concentrate Any questions you can e mail me through my avatar...GL
- Q:I am currently removing old cork tiles from the floor of my house. They are stuck down to the cement and as I‘m chiselling them up I‘m being left with a lot of glue residue with fragments of the cork too. Any tips on easy removal of the old tiles, but more importantly removing the glue? We are replacing them with new ceramic floor tiles. I was thinking maybe a heat gun and a scraper to clean it up but Dad has suggested a grinder! Any experiences with fast and easy removal of residue? I‘ve still got a room of cork to remove so if there‘s a better way than hammer and chisel I‘d love to hear about it!
- A sharp scraper a lot of hard work, the heat is a good idea as it will soften the glue making it easier to scrape the tiles loose.
- Q:Just bought a new manual tile cutter, but it didn‘t come with instructions. Any help would be appreciated.
