- It is a slightly stretchy tape which you tape round the end of the pipe on to which you are going to screw your new shower head. It makes a nice tight seal so your shower head won't leak at the join. You don't have to have it but it won't be such a good job. You can buy teflon tape at a Dollar store or pay a lot for it at a hardware store. My last shower head came with a little bit of tape in the package.
