Q:I have a power adapter that changes the tip of a power cable from the US standard to the Spain standard. My laptop has 3 prongs and the adapter accepts 2. It fits into it, but the 3rd prong just rests outside. I know the voltage over there is twice as strong, so will this work correctly?
The third is a ground, you should try and find an adapter that will accept a 3 prong plug. It' s not necessary, but its good to have. Your laptop should accept the voltage, look on the power adapter thing inline with the cord and look to see what its voltage rating is. It should have a bunch of written stuff , one of the lines will say input AC 100-240v 1.5A or something similar. If it does not read 100-240 but instead reads 110v, then DO NOT plug it in, the second you do it will break. my friends plugged in an xbox to a 220 volt system, they didn't even turn it on, something exploded inside almost immediately.
Q:I am running a LAN Cable through my walls, and I'm using the existing holes for the power lines. I'm wondering if the RF from the power line can interfere with the LAN Cables data. Thanks!
yes it can. the NEC (National Electrical Code) says they should be kept a minimum of 12 from power lines to avoid interference. Chances of it happening are pretty slim tho.
Q:I have a be quiet! dark power pro 850W. The sleeving is too thick for cable management!! It is a complete mess with the antec 900. its ridiculous as I bought it with cable management in my mind. Can I buy thinner cables on their own? Is there a standard modular fitting size?Thank you.
Cable thickness is there for a reason. The more current something uses, the thicker the cable. I'm sure you could probably replace the cable with any other cable, but a smaller cable will heat up more easily, especially if compressed in with many cables in a cable management system. You probably can, but should you??
Q:I need 300 ft. of service entrance cable and I've been told I need 4 guage 3 wire 200 amp aluminum is what I need but I'm wondering if this 1 guage overhead line would work just as well if buried in 2electrical pvc conduit for 300 ft.
Sorry wrong type of cable. The overhead is type SE with a certain insulation type. A 300 foot run will have an appreciable line loss from resistance and hysteresis and when inspected will cause hysterics from the inspector. Hire a qualified professional electrical contractor to do the work properly the first time, faster and easier and possibly the same price as you having to do it and to make repairs later. Also the work of digging a trench that deep is not easy, the contractor has the skills and the equipment and the personnel to do it the first time. This allows you a 2 day time frame instead of 2 weeks. Also pulling the wrong cable that distance is not easy and should be done with the proper power puller. Also #4 Al is not rated for 200 amps.
Q:Can A bad battery or power cable cause a laptop to Blue Screen? Is there anyway to pinpoint the actual cause?
If the battery is bad and the lap top is shut down from lack of battery or power from the power adapter charger it causes the operating system to crash or causes whats called a hard shut down and this in tern causes the operating system to develop corrupt system files. Fix replace battery or use on the power adapter only and re install or repair the operating system using a set of recovery disc made for the lap top.
Q:I plugged my 110 volt JBL On Stage ipod speakers into a 220 volt socket. The fuse has blown, although I think it has only blown in the power cable and that the Ipod speakers are still fine. I was wondering where I could find a replacement power cable. Thanks for your help
A 110 ac plug configuration is usually not the same as a 220 ac plug configuration. they look completely different and will not pug into each other...so, I'm not sure how you managed to do that. Now, I am talking about the United States (not sure where you live). Anyway, I'm sure you can find a new power cable online. Or have Best buy order one for you if they don't have it in stock.
Q:i have 2 xbox 360s; one german one american, only problem is my american one(110 volts) has lost its power cable, now i thought why not just use the german (220 volt) power cable; but im afraid that might blow up the cable or whatever, any suggestions??
right, the power outage would be too high
Q:Can I connect a single HDD and a DVD drive to the same SATA cable or will that draw too much power? I have 3 sata cables and a modular 850W PSU so I could use another cable if I needed to.
Power cables YES Data cables YES *but not recommended. (you would require additional hardware.) Normally the 7 pin DATA cables are considered 1 to 1. BUT with some hardware its possible to change that. Power cables are dependent on your power supply being big enough - 850W certainly sounds big enough but you need to know what is being used, such as is it powering hungry graphics cards etc?
Q:Every time i unplug the power cable from my laptop the wireless connection stops working and i can't seem to fix it by changing the wireless power options any ideas?
I am assuming that you are using windows, If you haven't done so already, right click on the battery on the right hand of your task bar and click on the power options. now, click on CHANGE PLAN SETTINGS Then click on CHANGE ADVANCED POWER SETTINGS a new window should pop up, look for wireless adaptor settings and select maximum performance, This could be your answer but then again I'm not sure what you have already attempted.
Q:I don't know what to do. I bought a monitor from someone on OKorder over a month ago. He said the person who packaged the monitor accidentally put my cables in the box with another monitor he sold to someone else. For a month now he's been quot;trying to find a solution. He said he looked at electronics stores, but never found anything. I already paid a lot for the monitor, and can't afford to buy the cables again. (because I already bought them with the monitor from this guy...)WHAT CAN I DO?
