Q:How do I fix this? Vacuuming only helps a little. The carpet is mushed from being stepped on all year in some areas, and other areas it looks like it did when we bought it. This makes the mushed area very noticeable. It is a lighter color than the carpet was originally.
The problem you have is caused by low density -- carpet weight is the ounces a square yard weighs not counting the backing, so 18 ounce carpet weighs 18 ounces per sq yd without backing, etc. Most homes are built by price driven builders, so the weight is low. To make it look more plush, these builders specify long nap carpet, and the combination of long nap plus low weight means the fibers aren't close together to offer mutual support. Hence, crushing in traffic areas. You can steam the carpet (there's a small steam machine available for about 12 dollars) and while still damp and soft, you can brush it with a regular hairbrush to help restore the carpet to a less crushed condition. This problem is especially noticeable at the front edge of stair treads. Best fix is more expensive carpet, but steam and brush helps as long as you keep doing it.
Q:I went to a heritage craft festival last year, and there was a lady making rugs. It was at a Colonial period mansion, and she said the rugs were found in the storage of the family, and never finished. So she was using similar materials, and following the pattern to finish them. I guess it was rug hooking, but I don't remember her calling it that. She would take a very thick piece of wool and pull it through the backing to make a little loop, then, on the same piece of wool, just make a loop in the next hole, no knots, no cut pieces..she said the fabric was so tight and the wool so thick that it would hold it in, and eventually the bottom would become felt from walking on it (she showed me the older portions of the piece). Is that the same as regular modern rug hooking? it doesn't seem like it...does anyone know if this sounds right? does anyone rug hook like this? Thanks!

Q:Also, would jute be good as i imagine lots of spills. Any ideas? And, doI really need a rug pad? Thanks!
Design rule is that your rug should be 24 behind the chair with someone seated. Mine is much less, maybe 12-18 and works fine. Jute will work but it's a bit hard to clean. On the plus side, it doesn't show spills too much. If you have cats, they might think that you bought it for their scratching needs. Invest in a good rug pad if you want to extend the life of your rug, or the rug is thin or stiff enough to slip.
Q:What kind of good pressing strip carpet and marble interface
Landlord, I've just made a marble foot block and carpet inside the Dongying Hotel. Their practice is to make the carpet the same thickness as marble. That is, the ground floor is low. Carpet and marble thickness, looks very beautiful
Q:We had to take our area rug outside for a cleaning and now it is raining. The rug probably will remain wet for at least 36 hours. Are there steps we can take to prevent mildew from setting in?
Another tip: Allow your carpet to dry flat... dont roll it up or anything... maybe get a hook hanger and hang it by your dryer... so the heat can dry it a bit faster! :) thats all i got! good luck! :)
Q:I collect HAND MADE wool, silk, and cotton Carpets / Area Rugs from Iran (Persian Rugs like Qum silk prayer rugs that I display as a wall tapistry, plus floor rugs like Tabriz Kermanshah), Pakistan (Bukkhara)...so my question is what are the classical Turkish HAND MADE CARPETS callled (please no cheap Belgium machine made crap) and I've heards that they are sold at Instanbul's Old Bazzar (if I'm saying it right, and provide info on how to bargain with vendor)...please give description by NAME (generally carpets know by city/village), PATTERN (ex geometric, medallion in center), and COLORS if possible, thanksp.s. in the event I'm most likely to get Trolled at, YES I did say Persian Qum silk PRAYER rug, but NO I don't pray on it I'm not Muslim, it's just a breathtaking piece of art
They have very good and informative ones.
Q:What kind of material carpet is easy to clean?
Nylon material is better, cleaning, and there is a kind of the latest material is: corn yarn, it uses biotechnology to make corn orange rod into yarn, environmental protection easy to clean, good flexibility is his characteristic. Rinse the red wine with clean water. It's hard to clean! But this little carpet can now domestic production, Ding carpet around the agent should be available. If you can't find it, you can buy nylon material, it is better to clean up
Q:I need to replace my 45 year old carpet. It is showing it's age. But one thing that has never been done is having it re stretched. Not one wrinkle. It lays as flat and tight as the day it was put in. So this beings up the question. quot;Should a properly installed wall to wall carpet ever need to be re stretched?quot; I have noticed many carpets in newer homes that are all wrinkled. And many people I've talked with after installing carpet need to have it stretched again, sometimes more then twice. Is this an inherent problem with what the carpets are made of now days? By the way my carpet is wool.
Carpet restretching could be necessary from poor installation, the carpet not being stretched enough when it was installed, but it can also be caused by the carpet backing stretching. Carpet backing can stretch from being poorly made, or from humidity or temperature fluctuations. Sometimes even well made and properly installed carpet needs to be restretched. Sometimes poorly made and poorly installed carpet never needs to be restretched. Few carpets besides wool would last 45 years, congrats on keeping your carpet going for so long!
Q:The hotel I work at is doing some major renovations. One of our flooring contractors left spackle foot prints all over our BRAND NEW carpet. How do you remove it without damaging the carpet?
Get as much up as possible while it's dry, once it gets wet it's going to stain and be a mess. You'll probably end up steam vacuuming it up in the end.
Q:ok so these might be stupid questions but.. can cooler rugs:a)be used under other rugs?b) be left on the horse when out in his field to stay clean?c)be usesd as an anti sweaet rug?d)be usesd as a travel rug?e) be usesd as a stable rug?thanks!!
