- Q:Trying to wire up a toogle swithch for boat light. Have a positive and negiative wire coming from the battery. I have 2 wires coming out of the toggle switch and two wires coming from the light. What goes where? Thanks
- Like so: Battery (+) to inline fuse holder (within 6 inches of the battery). Fuse holder to switch. Switch to light. Light to battery (-). If you don't know what amp fuse you need, 3 amps should be more than enough in most cases. Please, please, please don't leave out the fuse -- boat wiring is subjected to a lot more shock, vibration than household or automotive. If the insulation gets chafed off the wires (more common than you might think) you can get a direct short to ground, which *will* get hot enough to start a fire. You really don't want to be dealing with a fire on your boat. Sounds like your switch is faulty. +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ just read kilo's answer -- that's an interesting way to use a DPST switch. It'll certainly work, but seems a bit redundant to me. I just thought they were handy for switching two devices with separate 12V feeds (I used one for my helm lighting, with the tach being powered from the keyswitch accessory post, so it only lights up when the key's on). but he makes a good point; if your switch has 4 contact points (instead of just 2), make sure you use 2 on one side or the other (rather than the top 2 or bottom 2).

- There's not much you can do over the weekend... Just call first thing Monday morning so they can repair it... in the mean time be careful about what you eat... no sticky stuff, etc. Hang in there.. it'll be okay.

- Usually its a white/red and a black wire that stick out of the walls/ceelings. All you need to do is to match the colors together, red/white on red/white and black on black. White is usually the live wire and black is the return wire. If you plug them the other way around you can short out your lamp and pop your breakers or burn a fuse. just make sure the wire is not live so unclip your braker or unscrew your fuse for that circuit. If all your wires are black you will need a electric meter to know which one is which. Also sometimes black wires have a white line on them to differenciate from full black wires! hope it helps

- Magnet wire is just solid copper with a layer of varnish for insulation. Speaker wire would work, but you could not wind the wire as tightly due to the thicker insulation. also the wire is very flexible and will not stay in place very well. Also, if the coil gets hot, the insulation on the Speaker wire will start to burn or melt. .
- Q:1994 crown vic but it seemed like only 3 or 4 wires matched up exactly and this one wire was way to short so i had to route it the best way i could the guy said it was the right set of wires but the car runs way better then it did just wondering should i change couple of wires around to make it fit or just leave it what does crossing the wires mean
- Are the short wires touching any hot parts(exhaust manifolds)?If not, you'll be fine. There is a chance you used the wrong length wire for a few cylinders but as long as shes running fine and the wires don't touch hot parts you should be safe.Crossing the wires to me means running cyl 1 wire to cyl 5, this would cause your engine to misfire and idle really rough.

- a Since copper has higher resistivity than iron, the voltage drop in the copper wire with the same dimensions as the iron wire is greater, meaning more Volts/meter in the copper wire so the E field is greater in the copper wire. b Resistance is proportional to length, resistivity, and inversely proportional to diameter. Increasing the diameter could compensate for a material with higher resistivity. So the answer is yes.

- i own a repair shop,and if you,ll get a good Haynes repair manual on it,this will have the wiring diagrams in it,for doing this ,that's about the only way you can wire it up right on this job,good luck,i hope this help,s.
