Q:Is it more affordable to buy your own carpet cleaning equipment and clean your own carpets or is it more affordable to hire someone from a carpet cleaning company?

We purchased a Carpet Cleaner machine for about $100 and it works great! We decided to buy one because the rental and cleaner you have to buy, adds up! Then you are limited to the amount of time to do it yourself, which is usually cheaper than getting a professional. When we bought ours, we did one room a day until we were done, and we are still using the cleaner in the box! Next time we want or need to clean our carpets, we all ready have it! BUY ONE and do it yourself!!

Q:Hi everyone. I have a problem with my carpets. I recently bought a very nice, thin carpet. It is very detailed, thus it doesn't stay quot;flatquot;. It likes to move around and bulge. I have placed this carpet on another thick carpet. Now I need ideas to keep or stick my thin carpet on top of the thick one without damaging both of them. I dont want to glue or nail stuff done. Herrman is the only one to get it right so far.. This are special and very thin mats that allow a rug over carpet ( or carpet over carpet). But you must get one just for this because it also comes for rugs over hard wood and rugs over a hard surface.Do NOT get the shelf liner material type this won t work properly. They come as a netting type material or a felt looking material. They grip and protect the rug from sliding and bunching up..They will collect dirt and dust naturally and all you have to do is toss in the washer on a gentle cycle and the tackiness comes back. Q:We received a carpet bid for a room that is $2641.00. The next number is 52.44 installed and carpet only 39.44. I'm assuming this is yards? Does that sound like an average price for a slightly above average carpet?For about 200 square feet, is $7/sq. ft an average cost for tile and $1700 total including materials? Then still I have to pay labor separate. It is a unique tile in a unique shape, not square but rectangular.

The cost of the tile can vary from .99--? If you are happy with the $7 a square foot, then that is fine. I paid for my tile and then paid 3.50 a square foot for installation. I don't understand the extra money you have to put out for materials? and then to pay labour separately? I would get some estimate from other places...unless this is for the prep work..then it would make sense if that was needed. I strongly suggest you get a written estimate from them and a couple more installers. I like to hire the installers from the place of tile purchase. I cannot help you on carpet..sorry..I have no experience with that.

Absolutely not. Any beautiful rug given your style choice adds elegance to a room. If your choice is contemporary, a fabulous contemporary rug adds elegance. If your choice is more traditional, then an oriental is perfect or you can mix. A mix of styles takes a little more finesse but it is done and can be done. In the mix, elegance is about choosing your style and doing it right. An elegant contemporary room is about picking the right materials and look. Your husband is wrong. Elegance is about putting the right look together.

You need to find a shag rake. This is what they used in the 60's when shag rugs first came out. Try a google search maybe they still make them

Q:Only rug like this I own, a hand off from a relative in a pattern I love, but it needed cleaning, so I bought a can of Resolve and followed the directions TO THE LETTER, practically sprained my back on it, and when it was dry and vacuumed within an inch of its life, it looked EXACTLY the way it did before I started. Complained to the company and they sent me coupons to buy more of the stuff I said didn't work -- why do they do that? Anyway, I have to pay to have my wool rugs professionally cleaned, but not this stuff, can anyone recommend the best way I can clean this, thank you in advance.

The okorder / ... You could also rent a carpet cleaner if you don't want to purchase one. Once you have a carpet cleaner in hand I would recommend starting with plain hot tap water and rinsing the carpet first. The spray on cleaner has left plenty of residue that needs to be removed before you try to add more cleaning solutions or stain removers. Other than that, follow the manufacturer's instructions on how to use the machine. If you don't want to make that investment, if you can roll the carpet up and take it outside, you can wash and scrub it in the driveway with a garden hose and carpet cleaning solution. Once you're done, you'll need to hang the carpet out of the sun to dry for a few days.

Q:What's the difference between an area rug and an oriental rug?

an area rug is just that: ANY rug that is not laid down carpet, generally a rug that sits on top of another surface, often woods which shows around the edges. An oriental carpet is a very specific type of design. I would look at pictures as that is easier than trying to describe it. It is a type of area rug.

Your are right Abigail! A rug is indeed a carpet. In some countries there is a difference, a carpet is considered to cover the full flooring of a room, whereas a rug is used to cover a portion of a floor, more of a decorative method.
