Q:Hello, last night my dumb boyfriend spilt curry all over my sheepskin rug-tried cleaning with carpet cleaner but its not really taken out the stain. Should I take it to the laundrette? Dry clean? Please help!
Take the rug to a Dry Clean that specializes in fur coats...or at least one that has experience in cleaning fur coats. They should be able to clean the rug.
Q:We are doing a production of Anything Goes, and the script calls for a chair rug. I've done a little bit of research, and it seems to be a thick towel that you would put underneath you to protect from bugs and the slats of the chair. Can anyone give me a little bit more to go on, or better yet, tell me where I can find one?
The only thing I know about a chair rug is from years and years ago when I was a small kid. My grandfather got a small thin rug to place under his rocker on the wooden floors....it kept it from squeaking when he rocked. Not sure that is the same thing...but we called it his chair rug.
Q:please tell me how to tell whether or not to put a rug my horse, she lives out she is not clipped but she will be soon i live in cavan ireland so it can get cold so could someone tell me what signs i should look out for to tell when is the right time to put on a rug.p.s my horse is an irish sports horse if that makes a diffrence
Personally, I'd have her in a rug right now. I'm in Scotland and both mine are in middleweights - its dropping to near 0 degrees at night already and I wake up to frost. When she gets clipped she MUST have some form of rug on with weight in it unless its gorgeous weather - when you take away their coat its like taking away our clothes and expecting us to stand in the cold - we can't heat ourselves up and so we get cold very quickly. This is what I said for another answer. Weather for no rugs / fly rugs - HOT weather with no / little breeze. Weather for a rainsheet - Rain but no wind. Weather for a lightweight - Rain with wind, or just wind. Weather for a mediumweight - Rain with a lot of wind, just wind or cold temperatures (basically, as I don't feel the cold, the minute I need to be putting on a jacket is mediumweight weather) Weather for a heavyweight - The coldest it gets. Snow. Below freezing temperatures. Last year in the worst of it I did put a heavyweight stable rug under a heavyweight turnout, it got that cold.
Q:I'm interested in re-carpeting our new house in two small bedrooms, which are approximately 12x14 each. I'm assuming carpet is $1.50 per square foot, but I have no idea about carpet padding.I'm looking into Home Depot for installation. What do you think a rough estimate for my budget should be?Thanks!
It really depends on what you pick out. Synthetic is cheaper than wool. I've recarpeted the same house twice. Once I put down synthetic pile and it was under $2000. Once I put down wool berber and it was $4500. Just really depends on what you pick out. Also, if you pay someone to do the installation, they will charge for every piece of furniture they have to move, charge for pulling up and disposing old carpet, and if you have stairs, they charge extra for those.
Q:My daughter just spilled some Sunny D onto the carpet and it is not coming out. Any suggestions. I tried Oxy Clean, Resolve Carpet cleaner, and that other Duel Action one. NOTHING helped. Any home remedies..........Please help! This isn't the first time this happened. And still a light orange stain on my carpet. I would have thought that this would have came out easily considering that it is orange juice.
The problem that most people have when they spill some liquid on the carpet, they grab all these different carpet cleaning agents and try to clean it. This is the worse thing that you can do. Always flush the spill with plain water first, if this does not take it out do not mix all the different chemicals together, they can interact with each other and actually set the stain instead of removing the spot. The Sunny D has a dye in it and has to be neutralized, hopefully you have not permanetly set the stain. Flush the area with plain water to remove all that you have put into the carpet, then try a Detergent Solution - Mix one fourth teaspoon of a liquid dishwashing detergent per one cup of lukewarm water. NEVER USE A STRONGER CONCENTRATION! Thorough rinsing is necessary to remove detergent residues that may cause rapid soiling. It may be necessary to rinse with warm water several times to completely remove residues. Care should be used in selecting a detergent. Never use a laundry detergent of any type, because laundry detergents may contain optical brighteners that dye the fiber. Do not select an automatic dishwashing detergent because many contain bleaching agents that destroy dyes and some fibers. Work from the outside of the stain inwards so as not to spread it, and be sure to only use a white rag. Carpet fibers are absorbent and can pull coloring out of rags
Q:Office wall is white, ceiling is also white, the door is brown. What color of the carpet is good ?
How about gray?
Q:Ive moved into a new place .... the Carpets are vile ! can anyone recommend a good carpet shampoo for the use in an industrial rented machine. Also if you guys have any tips on carpet shampooing that would be great also !!!thanks !!!
I use Simple Green in my carpet shampoo machines. Simple Green is a highly concentrated all purpose cleaner you can buy in hardware, automotive, grocery and discount stores. It's also non-toxic and biodegradable and has a nice clean, light scent. I also mix a spray bottle with 50/50 Simple Green to water for treating really soiled areas before using the machine. Allow this stuff to work for a good 15 minutes before running the machine over. I only put enough Simple Green in the cleaning solution tank to barely change the color of the water; it is that concentrated! And using more will mean you have to rinse more! And you should make a final pass over the carpet with nothing more than clean water regardless of what product you use. If you get into a foaming issue in the recovery tank (the tank that collects the dirty water) just put a couple tablespoons of white vinegar in the empty tank. The vinegar will knock down the foam. You don't know what was used to clean the carpets with before and the residue from the previous cleaner sometimes foams. Fabric softener works too but the white vinegar is cheaper! And for stubborn spots that the Simple Green might not take out (it will take out most of them!) try a laundry stain remover product. My son's tan carpet was a nightmare and the Simple Green did take 90% of the stains and spots out. The ones that were left I used Spray and Wash on. I sprayed the stuff on, left it work a bit and gave the spot a good scrub with a scrub brush then ran the shampoo machine over it. Always, always do a really serious vacuuming job before shampooing the carpets. The more dry dirt you get out the less you will have to shampoo out. Use a new sweeper bag if your sweeper takes bags. Then after the carpet is thoroughly dry, do another thorough sweeping to remove any dried dirt that the shampoo machine pulled up to the surface.
Q:i live with my g-parents and the rugs are disgusting, and they refuse to change them. is there a way to throughly clean them and attempt to restore them without replacing them? thanks!
Go rent a carpet cleaner and buy the largest bottle of carpet soap the store sells. Move all the furniture and clean the carpets according to the directions - it takes a long time but you save alot of money. Use hot water. Once you finish cleaning all the carpets once, go back and reshampoo until you have used up all the soap or else it is time to take the carpet machine back. Those machines work good but they require alot of soap and you have to change the water alot - it is hard, hard work.
Q:I have never purchased new carpet and do not know where to begin. What type of carpet is best for high traffic areas? This will be stairs, hallway and bedroom.
Berber Carpet or Tile for a High Traffic Area Certain areas of your home get more traffic from family, pets, and guests than others. What type of flooring would be best for these areas in your home. The truth is, that there are two, low-cost options for your needs – Berber Carpet or Tile. The advantages to berber carpet are that it is a very tightly woven carpet which will withstand many years of high traffic. It is also advantageous because of how easy it is to maintain and even replace if necessary. Berber carpet is a solid choice for these purposes. Tile is also a good alternative. The costs and installation of vinyl or ceramic tile are more than that of berber carpet, but the life span of your flooring will be greater. The cleaning and regular maintenance with tile is also fairly simple. A good mop and soap solution will keep tile clean and shinny for years and years. If you have a porous tile, you will need to give a good hard scrubbing every so often just to get the deep down grime. For your high traffic area, look to berber carpet or tile to give you the longest life of your flooring You can read up on the advantages and disadvantages at the link I provided below.
